Hurricane Warning!

My house, which I built just before last hurricane season, is on the ocean right under the dot after FLL (Fort Lauderdale).

Is God mad at me?? :rolleyes:




Well, at least I have another excuse for a Hurricane Party...

No worries Dip. This one is small, poorly organized with wind speeds that at best will make the palm trees and shrubs look like they are having a bad hair day. Maybe a loose shingle or two will fly if it gets caught up in a gust. I wouldn't sweat this one. I would hang outside for this one. When winds start hitting 90 and up, it's time to take cover. Try being in the middle of one where the sustained winds are clocked at 212 and then the wind meters break loose and it gets worse after that. Couvousier XO became my best friend that night:lol:

I clocked 168 mph gusts in North Miami during Andrew and sent the info to the National Hurricane Center. They wanted to see my anemometer readout, but an electrical surge wiped out the recorded info. Hey...it just started to rain torrentially. Fo' shizzle I'm gonna have to pump out some pool water. I hope the electricity stays on this storm.

IT'S THE NOTHING!!!! AH-H-H-H-H-H-H-H-H-H-H-H-hhhhhhhhhhhh.........

Fortunately, it started to take form late. The waters down here now are exceptionally warm and ripe for the making of one powerful mother fucker. I was in the gulf over the week end and the water was at least 88 degrees.

Living with knots in your stomach this time of year is the price you pay to be in a warm weather climate near a coast. I've got hurricane shutters and a beefy generator and my fingers crossed.:lol:

Oooooooh, that reminds me, need to buy more couvousier just in case:lol:

I lived in Miami Lakes during Andrew. Some time around midnight, I put on my motorcycle helmet and some rollerblading knee and elbow pads, plus a heavy trench coat (from Halloween) and headed out to the golf course behind my place at the time.

The wind was about 80 mph or so... about what you feel out your car window on the highway. It was all I could do to move into the wind. Standing was impossible, I was on all fours, and even like that I would slide backward in the gusts. The rain stung like being shot with a BB machine gun non-stop and left a few welts before I learned to protect my face and hands.

I finally called it quits when an empty 5 gallon bucket flew past my head missing by less than a meter! :whoa:

I've done a lot of wild things in my life, but I'll never forget that night.

Looks like it got a little exciting for you guys there. Vero beach is probably having the most fun.

I know you'll both be safe but, yes, it sucks when the power goes out. Hope you guys don't loose it. :heart:

Hey Markos, you know the experience of sustained winds over 160 for hours at a time too eh? It's like facing the grim reaper. Wierd how it can be so deafening loud outside and so intensely quiet on the inside.

My Lady's mom just moved a 4/10 of a mile from my house and has a crisis a minute. She broke the crank on a window so I had to go over there, remove the crank, duct-tape the window and close the thing with a vice-grip. When I got home, the huge ficus tree next door fell over tearing a big section of my fence up and tearing up my sprinkler system with its roots! Damn! I offered to split the $1300 cost to remove HIS tree in June 'cause I'm sick of all the leaves and berries in my yard. No-o-o-o. "My wife likes the shade." Now he has to have this monster cut up and removed. I'm not sure what to do first. Do I phone my homeowners insurance? Last year it was over $3100.00!!! I don't want to drive up the rate. I'm gonna have to rebuild the whole fence by hand (it's an old style, no longer to code I'm sure) - 75 feet worth. PISSED!!!

Oh Markos,

I'm sorry to hear that. I would be pissed too. Everytime those things threaten, I look at my fense and pool screen and think, "man I do not want to replace this stuff". If I get a direct hit from one, it'll be enevitable. Makes me sick to know, I can't protect some things if one comes.

75 feet worth? Wow.

If the neighbors tree wrecked your fence, I beleive he is liable for the damages. I would sue him in civil court.

I've seen it before where peoples trees fall on neighbors cars and what not and the owner of the tree is liable for the damages. His home owners should cover it.

I would talk to him about it ASAP and tell him that he is liable for the damages to your fence.

Maybe you don't want to deal with the hassle of getting him to cough up. You can ask your insurance company if your rates will increase if you file this claim. They may not.

And we are not even into September yet.

Remember, you are alive and healthy. Some people would give their left arm to even be able to be healthy enough to build a fence they own around a beautiful home they have and someone like your lady to share it with.

I know it sucks for now. You'll move through it and it will be history before you know it.
