why in most pics I see in the growing section do people let thir shrooms table top?

why in all the pics I see of shrooms do most all the growers let the shrooms table top out? or close to table topping. I heard that the shrooms were at the most potent just as the vail is breaking away from the stem, and as the shroom starts toward table topping its useing more psyclibin to to start to prepare to drop its spores? Can someone please tell me if this is true or not? The only thing I can think as an answer to this is, thay are sacrificing potency for weight.

There hasn't been any conclusion to the debate of whether or not they stop producing psilo once the veil breaks, so a lot of people just let them live/grow. Aesthetics is a big reason I believe. :smile:

I like to harvest before the veil breaks...if I'm just harvesting fruits...because they look nicer...IMHO

I like to let the caps flatten out completely...if I'm going to be making spore prints.

I think alot of people wait because they arent selling the mushrooms. If the mushroom is harvested before the veil breaks the mushrooms will stay intact better when dried/packaged for sale. People who use them for personal use will like to see them fully mature to better appreciate the efforts they put into the grow.

At least - IMHO - there is NO DIFFERENCE in POTENCY

Just before - or as the veil breaks - makes for NICE LOOKING.



In full mature bloom, I believe you pick up about 5 to 10% more weight.

oh i think they are so beautiful when they are fully opened, that is why i let most of them go till then. love to see them like that. as far as potency wise, who knows.

hasn't anyone every bioassayed them at the point where the veil breaks and fully flattened out?

Ive had a number of trips of only aborts, only closed caps, and only flattened and spore covered caps. Never noticed a difference. Taste might be better as closed caps..but their still pretty rancid to me.

i think most growers here are aiming to get more weight from thier yeilds than potency. yea can't sell a "supposed potentcy", but by weight , weight is weight. see what i'm saying?

I like to let them open also. I like the look of them full open. Makes it easier to make them into arrangements with dried flowers
