I've seen several liberals, both here on the Shroomery as well as ones I've met in real life, who challenge the whacky ideas of conspiracy theorists. And don't act like it's just the left that does this shit. I remember plenty of conspiracy theories about the Clinton whitehouse.

I am not talking about "the government was behind 911 conspirators".

Bush is an evil genius, and he planned to attack Iraq all along. Or, Bush is an idiot, and he stumbled into Iraq and never had a plan. Those two arguments are mutually exclusive, but yet the people who perpetrate them never seem to argue against one another.

What about Israel? Do you think that Jewish people had undo influence and are secretly behind the war?

What about the "War for oil" crowd? How many liberals jump to shoot down those asinine assumptions? It never happens. Do you believe that we are in this war to get oil?

I should stop there, because I just remembered that you are in the "war for oil" crowd. Of course you wouldn't argue against it, or even think that such an idea is "wacky". You yourself take the "Halliburton" angle.

Do you know what that means? That means that despite all the publicly available evidence, despite the House of Representatives, The Senate, The President, and the overwhelming public opinion, we decided to go to war because Halliburton wanted to go to war. Did John Kerry vote to go to war? Did John Edwards sponsor the legislation? It doesn't fucking matter according to you, because Halliburton wanted to go to war.

Quote:

Paradigm said:
True, "we" didn't get their oil. Halliburton did. It doesn't benefit us. It benefits the oil companies.

Quote:

Paradigm said:
But oil is the reason we want to dominate the Middle East. The oil companies control our lives much more than people realize.

Quote:

Paradigm said:
But it's in our best interest(and by "our," I mean Halliburton's) to ensure that a US-friendly regime resides over those oil fields.

Quote:

Paradigm said:
Although we should be looking for cheap alternative fuels, it will be a long time before we can implement them, so in the meantime we're going to have to find a way to keep getting oil, and I'd rather dig in a wildlife preserve for that than go to war with a foreign country.

Now if I was a liberal and I argued that Halliburton controlled US foreign policy, I doubt that any liberal would confront me. But honestly, if we looked at the facts, Halliburton doesn't control US foreign policy.

So I see your point.

First of all, it is not a conspiracy theory to point out the critical role oil plays in our economy, or the close ties oil companies have with our government(not just Bush). Second, do you deny that Halliburton has benefitted immensely from the Iraq War? Third, I am not a liberal, nor did I say that it was "all about the oil"(only that oil played a critical role).

Also, many of the things you cite, such as Bush being an idiot, have nothing to do with conspiracy theories. Bush didn't conspire to be an idiot. He just is. As for him planning the Iraq War all along, this is public knowledge. There is documentation of him prior to 9/11 asking his advisors to find a reason to go to war with Iraq.

The only real conspiracy theory you've brought up is the "Bush knew" theory, which has been challenged by liberals and conservatives alike.

Well lets see you shoot down these asinine assumptions. Im going to enjoy this!

Next you will be telling me the fact that a former employee of Exxon has become "President" of Afghanistan is just a coincidence.... Some of these non-conspiracy theories are pretty damn stupid too.

I personally consider the Democrats to be right wing. They just happen to lean to the left more than Republicans.

On a global scale, you're right. The Democrats are right-wing compared to the Social Democratic and Green Parties of Europe. But then, the Republicans could be considered left-wing compared to the Taliban.

George W. Bush had Michael Jackson arrested so that The Jews, Rush Limbaugh, and white men could invade Muslims.

When the republicans revoke women's right to drive, I might begin to take this comment seriously.

It isn't. Fiscal conservatism is generally superior to fiscal liberalism. It's social conservatism that's the problem.

Come on Jesus I thought you were going to explain why it is ridiculous to believe the war in Iraq was in part due to the regions massive importance in terms of natural resources!

There's nothing wrong with being conservative. The problem is tht people don't practice what they are supposed to be part of. A real conservative majority would never have allowed the Patriot Act to pass. Or the War on Drugs or other invasions of privacy.
