Creating Ourselves on the Quantum Level

I'm digesting ideas from "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind," by Deepak Chopra. I've read about 50 pages and it has me all stirred up!
He states that we are constantly "incorporating," or creating our body, from our experiences, including our thoughts.
Once we reach adulthood, these experiences are highly filtered by our core beliefs about the world. These core beliefs keep us running on automatic pilot, and help ensure that our experience seems safe and predictable to us. They also generate our thoughts, often without any conscious input from us in the present.
If our thoughts are usually negative, he postulates, we are creating damaged/mutated cells to replace the dying cells. According to his theory, this creates aging. He believes that by becoming more conscious of our negative core beliefs, replacing them with positive beliefs, and thus spending more time responding to the present moment, we can delay or avoid physical degeneration.
I have noticed effects that seem to reflect what he is proposing.
I spent 4 years unhappily married, and entered into a deep depression. After a year of this, I began to feel much older. I had arthritis-like symptoms, chronic back pain, headaches, dry skin, reduced sex drive, and was often tired. I gained 35 lbs. (after a lifetime of being underweight) and looked middle-aged by the time I was 28 years old.
At 29, I got divorced, entered counseling, and began intensive work on personal growth and self-analysis. My goal was to return to the joyful person I had been as a child.
Looking back, it seems I have grown younger every year. I lost all the extra weight, regained my energy and joyfulness, and look younger than my age rather than 10-15 years older!
I believe his theories about the way we "dream" or create our physical manifestation may prove to be accurate.

Not to be a ball, er - an ovary-buster, but how come Sixpak looks every one of his 50-something years. And he will die within the next 30 years or so like every other human being...

Maybe he doesn't practice what he preaches. Or his practice is imperfect, like those of us who haven't written best-selling books.

Your personal story is more about the well-know affects of de-stressing rather than any mystical quantum level reprogramming; most likely to do with lower adrenal and cortisol levels.
Magic to you perhaps, and while I applaud your progress, biologically it is not breaking any new ground (if I understand correctly).

Ok, so the well-known effects of de-stressing do not require the changes in consciousness which he describes? Can we separate the mind from the release of adrenalin and norepinephrine? These may be merely the chemical markers of negative thought patterns!
What Chopra is describing is not new, by any means, but ancient wisdom expanded to include modern quantum theories. It is also not magic, but practical application.
Do you think that the body is severed from the mind?

Deepak is in his late 50s...maybe even 60. And he looks like he's in his mid 40s.

Yeah, but he was comparing Deepak to himself at 50.

What I take exception to is the extreme exaggeration of "Ageless". The title is pure hyperbole and then I am supposed to accept the content?

Yes, a more-accurate title would be "Crouching Wrinkles, Hidden Negativity."
I never accept content whole-cloth regardless of hyberbolic titles. I'm a true Bookworm: I chew through, digesting the raw material, and absorbing whatever might be nutritious. The rest gets flushed!
Why judge a book by its' cover, though? I'm curious about ideas, and like to gain whatever I can from them. It is possible to be a hopeful skeptic, y'know!

Bottom line is that "happy thoughts" have no observable affect on DNA or telomeres.

Yes, I'm sure.

However, there is scientific confirmation of the effects of unhappy thoughts on the body. The physical harm caused by stress and depression has been well-researched and shown to occur.
Studies on the effect of happy thoughts seem to have been conducted primarily by Peter Pan and the Darling children.

The physical harm caused by stress and depression has been well-researched and shown to occur. I already agreed with that. Did you NOT read my first response?
However, there is scientific confirmation of the effects of unhappy thoughts on the body. So? My statement is true as stated. The body is composed of trillions of things. I named two specific parts integral to longevity that remain unaffected.

Of course I read your first post, pooky.
The idea is to replace negative core beliefs with positive ones, thereby reducing the harm caused by negativity (AKA stress, depression, anger, cynicism ).
If scientists have shown that these negative states cause cellular damage, it seems clear that short-circuiting the process which results in negative states would be beneficial.

Yes, it's a new debating technique: call your opponent by a cute pet name to confuse and distract him.
