I heard the tantra is a way of living that you apply to sex.
Yet in a book im reading by the dalai lama strangley he keeps refering to sex and not how to live it.
What is a deity? Can you instead visualise what cant be visualised, ie All there is/God/Nirvana/Tao, this makes more sense to me than trying to visualise some sort of deity.
Could sumone recommend some literature?
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge. Tantra is just a word that refers to a series of practices which are meant to speed up the process of reaching enlightenment.
Sexual Tantric practices are considered highly dangerous and are usually only taught to the most respected and seasoned monks.
I don't think the Dalai Lama has any beef with sex either, just when it harms us or others.

It just seems strange ina book about general tibetan buddhism he keeps reffering back to sex, when all i want to learn is how to integrate the tantra into my everyday life, which i see as appreciation of every second in bliss.
But he keeps talking about sneezing and sexual practice

The word tantra really means technique. It's a science.
So you are right that it's a way of living. It's intended to be entirely practical.
I recommend The Book of Secrets by Osho.
You can read it here on Google Books but I think the +1000 page hardcover is a much more pleasant read.

Thanks, ill check the book out i cant handle staring at a computer screen that long!
Ive finally got the the part of the book which talks about highest yoga tantra and I can understand it more now i feel i have felt what the word tantra describes, pure bliss, & the word tantra just made perfect sense at the time, but strict buddhist theory seems to cloud my mind with all its terms & practices, when it feels as if its source is something that cant be put in words apart from Nirvana/Tao/Clear Light/Emptiness/Pure peace/awareness/acceptance, every thing is birthed from this, and Tantra is the "how to" of channelling that source while in human form.
Am i right in thinking this?

It took me weeks to be ready for this knowledge.

What im going to focus on is:
Four purities:
Seeing ones self/body as that of pure enlightenment/clear light/pristine peace & pure awarness.
Seeing ones environment as the land for this pure enlightenment to enjoy.
Seeing ones enjoyment as the unattached bliss and emptiness of enlightenment.
Performing ones actions for the benefit of self and others.
Seeing should be realised & actualised as visualisation of self as a fully enlightened being, full of the original source of clear light, pristine peace & pure awareness.
Yet devoid of attachment & with recognition of emptiness.

the tantric deities are like emanations you might think of emanations as radiance from some source, you could separately think of emanations as projected motifs, and the projection may just be the effect of time and existence and not necessarily intent, however, intent is the best starting point for an emanation or motif expression.
in a way , just having any idea in your head is a motif, and if it gets out in any way it becomes an emanation, or psychic result.

Wow, I didn't get any of that. You've outdone yourself. Good job.
