Creating Ourselves on the Quantum Level
    #4429113 -

I'm digesting ideas from "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind," by Deepak Chopra.  I've read about 50 pages and it has me all stirred up!

He states that we are constantly "incorporating," or creating our body, from our experiences, including our thoughts.

Once we reach adulthood, these experiences are highly filtered by our core beliefs about the world.  These core beliefs keep us running on automatic pilot, and help ensure that our experience seems safe and predictable to us.  They also generate our thoughts, often without any conscious input from us in the present.

If our thoughts are usually negative, he postulates, we are creating damaged/mutated cells to replace the dying cells.  According to his theory, this creates aging.  He believes that by becoming more conscious of our negative core beliefs, replacing them with positive beliefs, and thus spending more time responding to the present moment, we can delay or avoid physical degeneration.

I have noticed effects that seem to reflect what he is proposing.

I spent 4 years unhappily married, and entered into a deep depression. After a year of this, I began to feel much older.  I had arthritis-like symptoms, chronic back pain, headaches, dry skin, reduced sex drive, and was often tired.  I gained 35 lbs. (after a lifetime of being underweight) and looked middle-aged by the time I was 28 years old.

At 29, I got divorced, entered counseling, and began intensive work on personal growth and self-analysis.  My goal was to return to the joyful person I had been as a child.

Looking back, it seems I have grown younger every year.  I lost all the extra weight, regained my energy and joyfulness, and look younger than my age rather than 10-15 years older!

I believe his theories about the way we "dream" or create our physical manifestation may prove to be accurate.

Not to be a ball, er - an ovary-buster, but how come Sixpak looks every one of his 50-something years. And he will die within the next 30 years or so like every other human being...

Your personal story is more about the well-know affects of de-stressing rather than any mystical quantum level reprogramming; most likely to do with lower adrenal and cortisol levels.

Magic to you perhaps, and while I applaud your progress, biologically it is not breaking any new ground (if I understand correctly).

Ok, so the well-known effects of de-stressing do not require the changes in consciousness which he describes? Can we separate the mind from the release of adrenalin and norepinephrine? These may be merely the chemical markers of negative thought patterns!

What Chopra is describing is not new, by any means, but ancient wisdom expanded to include modern quantum theories. It is also not magic, but practical application.

Do you think that the body is severed from the mind?

Yes, a more-accurate title would be "Crouching Wrinkles, Hidden Negativity."

I never accept content whole-cloth regardless of hyberbolic titles.  I'm a true Bookworm: I chew through, digesting the raw material, and absorbing whatever might be nutritious.  The rest gets flushed!

Why judge a book by its' cover, though?  I'm curious about ideas, and like to gain whatever I can from them.  It is possible to be a hopeful skeptic, y'know!

However, there is scientific confirmation of the effects of unhappy thoughts on the body. The physical harm caused by stress and depression has been well-researched and shown to occur.

Studies on the effect of happy thoughts seem to have been conducted primarily by Peter Pan and the Darling children.

Of course I read your first post, pooky.

The idea is to replace negative core beliefs with positive ones, thereby reducing the harm caused by negativity (AKA stress, depression, anger, cynicism ).

If scientists have shown that these negative states cause cellular damage, it seems clear that short-circuiting the process which results in negative states would be beneficial.

I dig Deepak! What I ran with from that book was his comment about our brains being the most awesome walking pharmacies on the planet and that it can create the right chem at the right dose and send it to just the right places, no side effects. Practicing training it to do that with intention has been great fun. That's how I became the shroomless shroomhead.

Deepak worked on forward moving time spiraling backwards in his fictional book Merlin. Go for that one next.

I'm with you Veritas, Deepak thinks some fun thoughts and ideas to play with.

Deepak opened many western minds to ideas of taking health and healing into their own hands with the idea of the holistic body and prevention.

Prevention is a good message.  He also brings the message of peace itself being the path to peace to the world. I don't know why swami slams him every time his name comes up here.  I would ask him personally but we are not allowed by him to get into personalisms with him.

Besides, swamis recent post has canceled out his own argument here. He says people should be able to discuss ideas without personalisms negating them.  Then you, Veritas wish to discuss some of Deepaks ideas here and the first thing swami does is dig into Deepak personally to negate his ideas.  :what:

Double the standards, double the fun eh swami?

Doublemint gum.

Why were the doublemint twins with double the pleasure female and not male hottie twins?

There is no double-standard here. Unlike a discussion about the beginning of the universe, his appearance and health SHOULD be a reflection of his teachings.

You said that here, ideas should be discussed without personalisms. Veritas wanted to explore some of this mans ideas and you took it to personalisms about him instead of discussing the ideas of his she proposed.

So now you are admitting the value of personalisms?

If they apply to all others with ideas and not you, that is a double standard. You'd have a case if you didn't get into personalisms with other authors whom people post the ideas of. You do it more then anyone here to negate ideas presented. If you request people do not do it with you, then that is a discussion double standard.

If you don't see it that way, I may analyze why..........in private of course.

Re: Creating Ourselves on the Quantum Level [Re: Swami]

All that reply tells me swami is that you have the proven ability to teach us how to be competitive and how to dominate. Those are primitive survival goals and they run counter productive to people who are working to evolve beyond them into co-operative unity states of consciousness.

I will make this simple. Deepak can look 80 when he is 55 and it takes nothing away from his eloquent easy to comprehend writing style and ability to stimulate creative thoughts for personal exploration.

Not all of us are "prove it to me first" types. Some of us can take a ball hand off and run with it on our own. It doesn't even matter if it was a sloppy pass off or if we reach a goal. We just enjoy the play itself.

Why take it all so seriously. There really is no where to go save 6 feet under or off into eternity. Either way, life is to short or to long to take it so prove it to me first seriously.

Proving stuff to myself for myself is more challenging then sitting back and waiting for others to show me what my potential is. I had my own goofy ideas about halting and reversing the aging process before I ever heard of deepak.

I'm not one to wait around for others to tell me what I can and can't do or experience after they proved it. Did you or did you not once post about being a trail blazer and thinking for yourself? You did. To add to your inconsistancies, you also preach that we should wait for external authorites approved by you to blaze trails for us.

It's a no wonder so many people here want to get you in the analysts chair.

Reading Deepak is like comparing and sharing notes with another explorer of consciousness and human potential for me. Is it my life to choose to appreciate and use what he has to offer or do you wish to run it for me? Good luck! I can already tell you that you lost that match.

Deepak may not be hitting the right frequency notes to trigger the chemical flows of growth hormones which cease to be produced around the mid 20s but if I keep at it and if veritas does, and so do the millions of others, one of us may start cracking the frequency codes. I already cracked the codes for producing some other chemical releases. My fav feels like a Nitrous high.

Damn I was hit with over 20 dejavus typing this. What a rush!

Anyway, many of us have more then mastered basic survival here on earth and competition is childs play. A good hand full of us are well past it and down right spoiled living on easy street. What's left to do while waiting to die? I know, figure out how not to die for shitz and giggles. In the least so far, I figured out how to manifest nitrous highs at will and still get carded at age 37 and maintain good health and general well being.

Deepak played a big influence on a lot of radical changes I made almost 10 years ago.

Lets take a sports analogy. How often is it that a player exceeds the abilities of his coach?  It happens a lot. Same thing going on here. Deepak is like a coach and many of his players will exceed his abilities if they have natural abilities awaiting to unfold.

It's okay with me if you disregard him as having anything note worthy to say. To each his own. What sucks is that I think there are many creative minds here and fellow explorers of consciousness I would enjoy comparing notes with and all to often, you or one of your clones discourages people from posting and sharing when you come with your replies of negation.

So instead of having many far out exploratory discussions going on here we end up with dumb repetitive posts that are "safe".

The majority of posts here are convos I can have with my neighbors, just everyday talk. This is a pychedelic spirituality message board. You'd think it would be blowing the roof off. Instead, we have people trying to ground everyone to the basement because they are afraid of a little wind blowing around here.

The winds of change are nothing to be afraid of. They bring new life.
 :peace:

On the flip side, there are probably a lot of yongins here who freak out loosing it because they can't handle their drugs and you help pull them back in and keep them feeling safe when they have had one to many bad trips about the unknown.

That said, I can get my kicks elsewhere. Youngins freaking out in survival mode need their daddy swami to make it all go away and take care of it for them.

Fine by as we are all family here, as dysfunctional as it is.

I get to be crazy cousin jiggy!

Okay kiddies, here is your bed time tale from the nursery book of swami to sleep safe and secure at night;
All you need to know is that if you can't experience it repeatably at will with your five physical senses. It doesn't exist. Now go back to sleep...........................shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Well, if you're happy, and being happy makes you lead a healthy lifestyle, then you'll be healthy and look younger.

There's no evidence that being unhappy makes your cells mutate more or anything like that.

That's the problem with people like Deepak Chopra, they make things up.

Sure, it seems like it makes a little bit of sense, but does it actually hold any weight? How do you know there aren't other explanations that make more sense?

Only unmere humans. You may be pleased that many schools are once again allowing the teaching of Creationism.

I met Leonard Orr, author of "The Common Sense of Immortality" some 30 years ago when he was around 30 and again about seven years ago when he was in his early 50s. I guess I am deluded by appearances, but he amazingly aged like most every other human being.

His "hypothesis" was that we die only because it is a thought passed down by society. All we had to do was to change our belief structure. When I responded that animals die without such a similar "indoctrination" and that ultimate lifespan is limited by telomeres and mitosis, he had no rational response and instead used standard New Age double-speak and had no clue what I was talking about on the biological cellular level. (Never let education and knowledge get in the way of a cool theory.)

Yeah, some ideas would make cool elements of a fictional story, but their creators want their ideas to be all important and earth changing so they believe that they've figured out how the world works.

I do understand (basically) what you are talking about as to the SCIENCE of aging/dying. The measurable part of what we are is physical, but what about the non-physical? If we are 99.9999% empty space, how can we believe that everything is explained by the physical/observable? I am still learning about this, but already feel very dissatisfied with the party line put forth by science.

I also don't buy the "fluffernaut" idea that we are nothing but spirit, and that world-wide changes can be accomplished merely by thinking about peace.

As far as I know, life is 100% fatal: no one has survived it so far. My fascination with Chopra's ideas has to do with the way that life plays out. I see my mother decaying before my eyes. She has been old as long as I can remember, and her health fails in new ways each year. I think that this deterioration is affected by BOTH her lifestyle choices AND her addiction to negativity. She probably could not outweigh her toxic lifestyle by overcoming negativity, but would it hurt to try it and see?

I believe that life is both science and mystery. Neither will ever fully explain what occurs.

I have always had a problem with the "immortalists" . I always considered it fear of death and the ones I know who believe this have never impressed me with their attitude or evidence.

Still, when it comes to health and illness, I think we have some influence on our health by our attitude.

I have lead a rough life and spent much of it thinking negatively. Yet I am fairly healthy and look no where near my age of 52. That's why I still score young babes.  So, my family is long lived and healthy beyond most. This may be the most important factor. I like to keep open to the possibilities. Thinking healthy and positive sure does wonders for energy levels and enjoyment of life.

Of course Swami my heavy psychedelic use may also be a factor in my youthful appearance, and my pact with the devil. :mushroom2: :satansmoking:

So I happen to know that Chopra's roots are (1) as a Dr. and (2) based in Maharishi's promotion of Ayur Veda, which Deepak joined into with both trotters in the trough. Especially when he saw what Maharishi was doing in selling TM mantras and techniques. Deep became a born again Hindu New Age guru - all around shamanic healer/snake oil salesman.

The basic principle behind the positive/negative healing vs. harming thought concept is not the surfacy thoughts themselves which are hard if not impossible to control but in enlarging the base of awareness to superceed discursive thought because supposedly the base of thought is positive.

It has been posited that the base of thought is pure consciousness and that it is the self same level as the DNA, such that when one sits in samadhi without object, that is, samadhi where consciousness is the only object, that ones DNA is also reconnected with ones entire organism. Thus alllowing the more effortless flow of information between DNA and mRNA, such that the basic structures of the body can realign themselves. A self-Rolfing, if you will, from the inside out.

One could make all sorts of conjectures about this state, but it is a typical principle in the tantras - Buddhist and Hindu - that all the divinities live in the actual flesh on its subtle level.

It could be further extrapolated that in the state of self awareness those sentiences can very well be the basis of ones very thoughts, like the cells of awareness, like the cells of the body.

Various tantras teach how to uses those intelligences, to heal, and also to harm.

This in fact is what the four Vedas ultimatley are entirely about, that is, alligning the environment through subtle intelligences which exist within our awareness on subtle levels.

The Vedas being abstract hymnals without instructions, however, necessitate the understanding of the tantras for how to use them. Nowadays. Actually it used to be that lineages of Brahmins held the know-how for using the Vedas, and those lineages were of the Upanishads, Aranyaka and Brahmanas.

The main difference between the tantras and Vedas is the scale of the ritual and the scale of the effect one is seeking. Because the Veda and system of yajna performances seeks a truely macroscopic quantum effect based on group performance. I say quantum effect because there are no deities 'out there' somewhere. Rather, the deities are 'in here.'

Essentially Chopra is no different from any real and actual pundit. Only his marketing is different. And he has no Shaka or pundit lineage stemming from one of the rishis.

For this reason I find him trite and selling dummied down Hinduism for New Agers.

He's got hell of a bace then. Most new agers can only handle trite. Yet there is a very small percentage that will take his package and explore it from there, leaving him far behind, but a place where the journey began. That's why I don't write these guys off completely.

so while we might not want to take him "hook line and sinker",
the invitation to go fishing in sublime waters is definitely appealing.

Sure.  I need no one to direct my adventure but me anymore. Yet I get many of my ideas from people like you. And although you have a lot going for you guru redgreenvines, I like to do my own exploring and take the lumps that go with that.
