Cannibalism, Wrong?
    #4262307 - 06/06/05 02:02 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Before we go off on an urban myth tangent, let me preface the discussion by pointing out that it is a myth that eating the brain of a person will give you a prion encephalopathy like Mad Cow disease.

The truth is that eating the neurological tissue of an animal with a prion encephalopathy WILL give you the disease, but eating the neurological tissue of a neurologically healthy animal will not. This is evidenced by the fact all carnivorous humans eat at least some small amounts of cow neurological tissue that makes its way past post-slaughter dissection.

So, if someone's cultural norms are to eat their (neurologically healthy) dead, is it right or wrong to do so?

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Right. Chow down.

Here is another one for you. Is it wrong to fuck the dead bodies before you prepare them as food?

What if the dead person expressly stated that they didn't want to be eaten (or fucked) when they died? Since they're gone and so won't know or care by dinner time, would it be wrong then?

i would say it's wrong. assuming one respects volition.

otherwise it's like saying a person's volition is only tied to the present moment.

volition is a tie between the person and the object. the person passes away, but volition spans time.

No. They are dead, promises to the dead need not be honoed for practical reasons. What if after you fucked the bodies you sold pics of the act on the net for $10 each and sent copies to the dead person's familly for their enjoyment. It is possible to justify anything if the cultural norm is being observed.

again, it is futile to ask what is right and what is wrong, because you decide that for yourself, nobody can tell you what is right and what is wrong, no more than someone can tell you how pretty is the color red.

If it is right to the eater, then it is right, if the eater feels remorse, then it is wrong

From a moral perspective, if that is the cultural norm, then there is no issue. From a health perspective, it is a very dangerous practice. Very few pathogens cross species which is why one animal doesn't typically get sick from eating another animal, even if the other animal was diseased. However, if an animal eats it's own dead, then it is at risk of catching any diseases that the dead animal had. Of course, with natural selection over time, who knows what the long term effects would be.

Silver Spoon

Throw down all your
silver spoons - eat
all of the raw meat
with your hands.
Pick it up piece by piece
Pick it up piece by piece
Pick it up piece by piece

Where are the bodies
for dinner?
I want my food!

What if you were
starving to death and
they only food you had
was me - what would
you say to the cannibal
question? Would your
answer be perfectly
free?

Your mama told you never
to eat your friends
with your fingers and
hands, but I say you
ought to eat what
you will - shove it
in your mouth any way
that your can.

You think that I will come
to your mouth, looking for
a home. But I get stuck
sideways in your throat
like a good old chicken
bone.

Where are the bodies for dinner?
I want my food!
Stay out the kitchen children
The cook is cleaning his gun
He just got back from the open
markey - shooting his food on
the run.

Your mama told you never
to eat your friends
with your fingers and
hands, but I say you
ought to eat what
you will - shove it
in your mouth any way
that your can.

Sharpen your teeth for the
family feast - let all the
hungry drool roll down
your chin. Hide the human
and bring out the beast.
Let all the animal games begin!

Where are the bodies for dinner?
I want my food!
You could leave to dine on
your friends - pour their
bones into a cannibal soup
muscles like steak
blood like wine - save
the brains to feed to troops

Your mama told you never
to eat your friends
with your fingers and
hands, but I say you
ought to eat what
you will - shove it
in your mouth any way
that your can.

Scarlet juices ozing
slow - boiling in a
human sea.
Is it human dinner
you're talking about?
Then slice me tender
raw and lean
Where are the bodies
for dinner?
I want my food!

Oily fingers can hardly
wait - bodies slumped
face in plate
Wake up the drunks
the coffers on
the fourteenth course
has come and gone.

So long
all day sucker
your candy has
come and gone
and its left you
with your mouth
wide open.

Just humming
cannibal songs.
