What does 25 Celsius translate in Fahrenheit? They are in full sun, but it does get cold at night, like 35-40f sometimes. Its been in the 60s here.

Okay, fine. What bothers me is the trend of increased bannings of established members. While I do agree with many of the rules (flaming in PA&L for example) the rules seem to be ever tightening, and I'm wondering if the time will come when someone is banned for expressing an opinion (in a civil way) that the powers-that-be don't like. Can we expect this? And if so, do let us know.....

does 3 years of trolling give a person less banability than some one with 3 weeks
of helpfulness, should it matter if a person has been here for a long time
if that person is increasingly creating problems for new and old users alike

there are cries to get new blood into OTD because people are becoming afraid
to post, I hear the same thing from no0bs with 1 or 2 posts in OTD, moderating

and some people are pushing it well past the limits of fun, when a no0b is told

Fine. I will devote myself to defending James Dobson as he has a right to speak his mind and desseminate his ideas, regardless how hateful or unfounded in corporeal reality that they are.

Super_Blunt was banned for a different reason than Hanky. They weren't the same type of poster, hence different treatment.

And of course I have bias. I have bias toward rationality and pragmatism.

my bias is towards allowing people acces to the forums with out have to endure it as a hardship, I can deal with a few broken rules, I cant deal with this

Point taken. And yes, some do push the limits, to be sure, and they should be dealt with. But how far is too far? Now if I made a post in the Pub along the lines of "The Grateful Dead sucks dog balls", I would fully expect to be banned for that. But how about a posting like "I really don't care much for the Grateful Dead", should that also be a bannable offence?

And yes, there IS a lot of offensive material in OTD, but isn't that what it's purpose is? It does take a thick skin to stay in OTD, and there are just some who are too sensitive. This is the purpose of the Pub (or at least I assume it is). Not to state the obvious, but there are many more forums besides OTD and the Pub - these forums have much to offer. But if the goal is to make OTD another Pub, you might as well just get rid of OTD, as so many have advocated in the past.

And remember there are some people who are going to take offence at the slightest thing. Should we also cater to their every peccadillo? While I do admire you and your fellow admins efforts to try to make the 'Shroomery palatable to as wide a range of people as you can, you ain't gonna please everyone, no matter what you do.

By the way, (and to clarify) it's not just OTD I'm worried about - it's the 'Shroomery as a whole.

He did not intentionally set out to break the rules. There was a reason he posted the pic - and it could have been any pic - what he thought was a funny pic - but upsetting mods and admins was not the reason. The intent was never malicious or provoking. It has nothing to do with not being able to resist etc. If he wanted to be malicious he would have just posted scat in the pub or a scat collage or something. I mean seriously - if he had of known it was an unallowed pic would he have posted it in a thread which Prisoner#1 was posting in quite a bit??. Lets think about that for a moment huh?

He has been posted several times for intentionally breaking the rules. This was a genuine and honest mistake. An easy one to make when you consider what is in OTD and what has been allowed etc. There are shock pics and scat pics and lots worse in OTD - you only need to know where to look.

so anno, are you at least considering setting a duration on hanky's "indefinate" ban?



also, you really should consider re-writing the banning policy to make permabans only for those who threaten safety or security of the site or its members. mild to moderate rules violators, even repeat offenders should work their way up to a month long ban and that should be the cap.

I mean, people will get the message if they lose posting for a whole month, and if they don't, that doesn't matter either, because we'll only see them once a month. :shrug:

Everyone seems to be arguing a moot point. What should be argued about is the policy of "3 strikes and you're out", not the fact that he was banned. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: repeat offenders of petty crimes should never receive a permaban. He did nothing to compromise the safety of the site. Leave the permabans to those who threaten violence or do thinkgs like solicit drugs.
