what about a third rating option?

well, right now there is Trade or General but often when i look through
peoples ratings at first it hits me and i think like 'damn that geezer sure got a couple'
but upon closer inspection it often comes out that many of the ratings
referr to offtopic discussion but arent cleary visible as those.

so, in my eyes, it would be VERY nice to see a third option to select,
name it "Mycological" or something so that people can see what ratings
of a user actually are from his knowlege of mushroom cultivation and not
from yelling YADDA YADDA or soem other brainless stuff in otd ...

Post count chart is a good way to find out where people spend their time.

If a person blows into culti forum from OTD with a 100+ ratings and 15k posts, I'm not going to give them that much more credibility than a newbie anyways. They have to earn it.

Hey,

This is an interesting idea but I think it would be kind of redundant. The whole purpose of the rating's "comment" field is so you can clarify what the rating is for. Thanks for the suggestion though!

this cannot at all be seen by rating itself and it could be for any otd stuff...

Right, so in order to leave a descriptive rating you'd probably want to say something like "lots of thanks for your help with my contamination problem".

Here's your post count Diver. You spend the majority of your time here talking about growing shrooms. This is only you 8th post in this forum. Now in your super-senior year at Shroomery U, you've only started 52 threads, less than one a month. Those two facts tell us you have more answers than questions and are probably happy with the way the Shroomery is. All things considered you're also an asset to the community since you spend most of your time responding to people interested in mycology :grin:

I'm sure there are. I wasn't picking on a particular forum or trying to state anything derogatory there, just saying that as a community it doesn't take long to figure out where someone is coming from, regardless of how many 5 shroom ratings they hold.

on another note.... there's alot of people in hunting/mushroom cult that have NO IDEA what they're talking about sometimes.... and they come off to noobs like they are. so those ratings might not be that accurate--it's just as subjective as a general rating.... hence, the purpose of the general rating.

I don't think such a rating would be useful for members at the shroomery. If somebody reads a post, do you think they would go into that members profile to review their "mycology rating" in order to confrim the content of the answer? Not likely even though that rating very well may be sabotaged or embellished by other members who have a personal grudge against them for something un-related. It doesnt seem feasible. If another rating option was added Id reccomend something like the following:

A gathering/hunting or a personal meetup safety rating. I have yet to attend a shroomery gathering but one of my concerns is that there are members who mean harm to this community thus cannot be trusted for gatherings or meet-up hunting partners. The content's of the rating wouldnt really be like "I dont like this person" but more of "Ya, I confirm this guy to be a credible/non-authority member" I guess this can be abused as well but perhaps there can be some kind other measure that would validate a member's intentions---MOD's/Already trustworthty names). Do you guys think this would be useful. A member first account verification rating?

I actually spend more time there then you think. I am a cultivator. I've received all my information from members of this site. Just because I chose to post in the pub and other forums...does not necessarily mean I don't spend my time in the cult forum.
I don't always need to respond to posts in the cult. forum because usually there is someone else who has already asked the questions I want to ask and there is always an answer...so therefore...there is no need to post repetitive questions.

I just think that when giving a rating...someone could be more specific.

some people have spent a long time posting in cultivation, before they either learn/share all they care to, or stop growing.. and move on to other forums
I know I started here to learn cultivation, and I stuck to that strictly for a few years, but then I got tired of answering the same questions over and over.. and I had learned everything I could from basic cult. So you see there are a good number of experienced cultivators here that do not even necessarily post in the cultivation forums.

Besides shouldn't you be able to judge the integrity of someone's cultivation advice/knowledge just by reading their posts on it?

IMO a third set of shrooms would just be too much
