Sort of a half baked Idea I had for the ratings sysem

First off, I think the current rating system is great and shouldn't be altered at all..... really my idea had nothing to do with it.

But, a few nights ago while reading in ODD it occurred to me that there are many knowledgeable people who are full of advice, and who each have their own area (or areas) of expertise. Some know RC's, some know benzo's, some know opiates, etc.

But, then I realized it is possible for someone who may be vary knowledgeable about one type of drug, who has a high general rating, and is by no means uneducated, to give inappropriate facts or advice to someone unintentionally. Then I thought to myself- wouldn't it be easy to take a glance at a person's "credentials" if you will to see if they really know what they're talking about....

what If someone could have a section in their profile which details what areas their fellow posters agree they are most knowledgeable in. What if someone who is very knowledgeable about one specific area could be "nominated" by another poster and then after a certain number of other posters second the nomination (as simple as adding a vote they way you would a rating) this person would gain a title in their profile, not necessarily always on display, which would reflect their credibility.

I realize that this was what the rating system was designed for in the first place, but to me "general" is just two general when pertaining to the differences between drugs discussed on this site.

I don't know, this could be a really dumb idea, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway, couldn't hurt :shrug:

always research things yourself, never use what you read on a bulletin board as your bible.

Ya that would cause a lot of problems with people who seem credible slipping up and causing somebody else harm. It makes people more likely to take advice off the boards like GJ says and that's never a good thing.
