I inquired about this issue before: How the hell does a newbie who registered last month with 58 posts get 5 shrooms? I complained before that it was wrong to be able to rate yourself, then apparently you can't, but how is this possible, go around the other boards and check out the users that im talking about.

A) hover your mouse over the shroom to see the number. newbies ratings are all screwy cause they don't have many ratings.
B) you sound like you're jealous of his 5, cause you only had 2 when you made this post. let it go.
C) i rate everybody towards the direction of 3. so i gave you a 5 even though i don't know who you are. and i give 1s to people (even if i like them) if they have 4 or 5 shrooms. it's kinda neat. it's fun to see if you can make their ratings change.

i also have a question for the admins.
i've noticed this (or something highly similar) happening a couple of times:
someone has 1 shroom, 2 ratings. i rate them a 5, and it changes to 5 shrooms, 1 rating. what's that all about?
does it have to do with the pre-reset database?

That doesn't make sense, give people high ratings based on the quality of their posts. Yer probably the one who made me lose a shroom yesterday because I had 4  If you don't believe the ratings are neccessary then don't vote, your method of voting just messes up the whole point of the shrooms. just my opinion, do what you like.

I thought that was the whole point of having shroomery ratings, people who are a great assest to the shroomery community usually have high shroom ratings. This reflects on their post quality.
after all, i rated you a 1 and i have no opinion of you....

Both the shroom ratings and post counts are stupid ideas.
I rate any who even brings up their rating a 1, just out of general priciple.

I think there should be a seperate rating system only for people who use the cultivation section.
Otherwise, I also feel that the rating system is totally useless.
I think its funny that people who have probably never read any of my cultivation posts are the ones voting me down because of my political views and philosophy (in OTD and Pub etc.). Not at all based on the quality of my cultivation posts (the essence of this BB).

Following with that, someone who has never cultivated or posted in the cultivation forum but has 4 shrooms and 3000 posts (from OTD, man i hate that forum) could give some newbie terrible advice but the newb listens to them anyway because they have high ratings and posts.

You can get terrible advice from people who are popular and wonderful advice from those who are not.
In the end I think it is self education that teaches the best advice.
If in need of cultivation answers...first read a book...then ask a stranger on the www.
But don't listen to me...I'm a fool at heart!

Oh, I've done my studies. I'm a bio student. I have a whole book shelf dedicated to fungi.
I agree that doing your own research is the best way to learn.
But some people just really can't get a grip without someone else's help.
And more often than not the people making the most intelligent comments are the ones who have been posting for a while and have 3-4 shrooms.
