Within weeks of the Council's choice, the Lefties had forgotten all about their opposition to Chalabi and their confident predictions of his certain rise to power through US puppetry, and had determined that in fact all along it was really Allawi who was a puppet "installed" by the US.

I never mentioned Chalabi, but somehow that is cogent to my argument? Someone is losing their grasp here.

Please tell us who installed Allawi.

Hmmm. How many others reading this thread would agree that the statement "Someone is losing their grasp here," qualifies as (yet again) expressing an opinion on the poster as opposed to addressing the issue?

Iraqis installed Allawi. Iraqis will either reaffirm or de-install Allawi.

As it turns out, my sources for the number of lists (blocks, parties) were on the conservative side. There were a total of 111 lists on the ballot. One which was expected to do well was the Communist one. Some lists consisted of a single candidate. Some were exclusively Kurdish. Some were coalitions of Sunni and Shi'a.

Explain to us why -- if this election was nothing more than an elaborate Bush-directed puppet show -- Communist lists were presented to the voters as a choice. <sarcasm>Dubya personally approved all one hundred and eleven parties on the ballot.? Made each one of the nearly 11,000 candidates sign a loyalty oath to Amerikkka. Even the Commies.</sarcasm>

Swami writes:

"Do you HONESTLY believe that anyone other than the American-backed Allawi has even a remote chance?"

Well, well, well. The results are in.

8.46 million votes.

14.5 million (approximately) registered voters -- 14.2 million resident in Iraq and an additional 280,000 expatriates (2% of the total number of registered voters) who cast absentee ballots in fourteen countries other than Iraq. 265,000 of the 280,000 expats are reported as having voted. That calculates to 8.2 million votes from resident Iraqis -- an in-country turnout of 58%.

How did that 8.46 break down?

4.08 for the UIA (Sistani's mainly Shi'ite list)
2.17 for the various mainly Kurdish lists
1.17 for Allawi's list
1.04 for everybody else combined

I would say that seeing as how Allawi's group ended up with less than 14% of the votes -- compared to 48% for Sistani's group -- we can honestly believe that someone other than Allawi has even a remote chance.

But wait! Maybe Sistani is himself a secret puppet of Chimpy Bushitler and he will issue a fatwa directing the representatives of the UIA to cast their votes behind Allawi when it comes time to elect the President. That Chimpy is a sly one, remember.

Iraqis installed Allawi.

Uh huh. The Iraqi people installed him without an election? How quaint!

The president of the Iraqi transitional national assembly has been chosen -- Jalal Talabani, a Kurd.

The prime minister has also been chosen -- Shiite Ibrahim al-Jaafari.

No Chalabi, no Allawi. The moronic evil genius master manipulator Chimpy Bushitler and his Machiavellian sidekick (some claim puppet master) Karl Rove have been foiled again.

Nice of you to disregard your previous statement of Allawi being instated by the Iraqis. We all ignored your ignorance until you resurrected a 3 month old thread, though.

So sorry, Girt, but Allawi was in fact chosen by Iraqis. There's no way to ignore that fact. As I said in my previous post, it would be Iraqis -- not Americans -- who either reaffirmed his position or chose a replacement for him.

Swami and I were both mistaken -- he was certain Allawi would be reaffirmed as prime minister:

Quote:
And of course, not you or anyone else that supports this farce will wager that anyone other than Allawi will be the head puppet; same as before.

...while I figured he likely would be:

Quote:
For what it's worth, I personally believe the newly-elected members of the national assembly will most likely choose Allawi. But my sternum won't be bruised by the point of my jaw crashing into it if someone other than Allawi is chosen. Despite your baseless accusations to the contrary, it is up to the Iraqis. And I don't know enough about the current political tide in Iraq to care making a wager on the outcome. What I do know is that whoever is chosen to head the government for the next year will not be a cleric.

Of course, the usual suspects at Daily Kos, Oliver Willis, rense.com, Democratic Underground et al will are probably already referring to al-Jaafari as a "US-installed" puppet, completely disregarding their previous certainty that Allawi would get the post or if not Allawi then Chalabi.

I don't think that Allawi gets near enough credit for what he has done. That was a tough job if there was one. I admire the man.

If we combined Swami and Pinksharkmark into One...

Then we would have one deadly, deadly poster.

Add MarkostheGnostic into the mix, then we would have the Ultimate Poster of the Shroomery.

Of course, you could top all that off with the SkorpivoMusterion, but that would be too perfect.
