Philadelphia gun violence
    #3933227 - 03/18/05 12:56 AM (12 years, 11 days ago)

[Being Rant]

I almost blew a gasket watching MSNBC tonight. They did a show on how many murders there are in Philadelphia. The mayor of the city ?threw out two suggestions?.

#1. Handgun sales in the city limits should be limited to one handgun a month. This will do absolutely nothing. There are already ample handguns floating around the criminal underworld. Limiting sales will do nothing about the problem of gun availability to criminals.

#2. Concealed Carry permits should not be issued anymore to residents in Philadelphia. This is ludicrous. Do you think the people who committed those murders were legally licensed to carry handguns? No. I would gander that most were criminals that don?t give a shit about any laws. Restricting concealed carry permits only affects law-abiding citizens, because the criminals carry their guns illegally anyway. Considering Philadelphia is such a violent city, why take away law abiding citizens right to defend themselves? Also, I should add that in order to get a concealed carry permit you must pass a background check.

Neither of those two suggestions would accomplish anything.

[/End Rant]

I agree with you completely.

Not only are their handguns in the criminal underworld, but limiting sales to one handgun a month isnt taking handguns out of the public. If you do the math, 12 hand guns a year. I dont think Rambo needs that many hand guns. I think its safe to say some politicians dont know how to use logic.

I have friends who buy more handguns than that. Gotta love Georgia.

ending concealed weapons permits seems like logically the last thing you would want to do.

It is about the only thing I like about the state. I go to a gun shop, pay for a background check, shop around for a few minutes/hours, and then buy a new pistol.

Um, isn't this what australia did a few years ago.

Ban all weapon sales to get crime down.

Good citizens dont buy weapons, bad citizens rob good citizens, and armed crime actually goes up?

Seems to me, we need more guns. If the mayor gave every single person a gun, maybe these shit heads would think twice before robbing a home. sure violence would go up for about a week, as the dumbasses take each other out. But isn't that what we want, the bad elements just to take themselves out, so the good guys are left standing?

I just believe that proper in-home discipline would curb alot of street violence. Parents are not allowed to punish their kids anymore. Kids aren't being taught to respect others anymore. Add that to an ever increasing population and you're bound to rub some one the wrong way. Once you get people who are raised to just not give a fuck and not take shit off of anyone for any reason then you have problems.

I had a friend once(we no long speak) that got mad at a German bar tender for giving him water instead of beer that he attacked him viciously. The problem was that he was trying to say"Hefewiesen", but with his heavy Bronx accent all the guy could make out was "wasser". He had spoken so fast that his speech was misunderstood.

That is plain and simple, bad home training.

The problem isn't with the number of guns, the problem is with the mindset of Americans (not all of them, but a lot). Many other countries have liberal gun laws, such as Canada, but no other country has even close to number of gun related deaths as the US. We need to change the paranoid & violent attitude that causes the violence, not the gun laws.
