myth Busted, wbs....

well im sure you have all read about how to remove your sunflower seeds from your wbs. well for me it takes along ass time to get them all out sense they dont all float. and i was always paranoid about them, plus i am anal about shit like that,( im not gona do it half ass)

well i didnt soak enough wbs  and ended up with an empty jar and theres room for all 12 jars in my pcer :smile: so i decided to dig the sunflower seeds out of the trash that i picked out and filled up this jar with them. well it colonised very good as you can see. it actualy was the 3rd jar finished, i also only used half a cc to shoot it up. looks like very strong growth in there as well:)

so after all that talk of it will  or can cause contams  blah blah blah i dont by it anymore.  [image][/image]

Yea, I dont know why people soak either, I just used the "foolproof WBS meathod" no soaking, probly didnt have to remove the floaters either...

You can colonize almost anything w/ the right ph, Fruiting it is what really matters.

Now if you could Fruit some mushies from it, i'd defiently be impressed and change my thoughts on floaters, till then :smirk:

everyone finds a method that they prefer, I soak or simmer, I've always had trouble with the lazy mans ways of doing it, aparently I'm not lazy enough.
even if I find a stick in the mix, it goes in the PC

Soak the seed for 24 hrs. Put the seed in collander and rinse all the funky soak water off of it. Drain the seed in a collander for 2 hrs. Load jars 2/3 full. Add filtered lid of choice. PC 90 minutes@15psi. Allow grain to cool to the touch and tap the jars against your palm to break up grains. Allow the jars to cool completely and tap them again to disperse the remaining condensation evenly throughout the grain. Knock'em up.

And sunflower seeds are fine. They contain lignin, which is essential in sturdy growth for vegetation.

imo soaking is still good, i see a faster colonization time with soaked and simmered rather than not.

eh, I'll try soakin my WBS next time, but I was in a bit of a hurry, also doing quarts need quite a few soaking bowls...

BTW, only PCed for 45 mins each, and no contams ^^

No worries with the simmering. If your in a hurry the simmer will speed the hydration up. I've simmered seed for an hour and drained and pc'd with no probs. If you soak for 24 hrs, there is no need.

I put a huge pot full of wbs and then slowly heat it until the seed absorbs most of the water, expanding the kernals and seed. This is nice because it soaks fast #1, #2 then you can put it into bags or jars and it doesn't expand inside those(i.e. stays the same since when it was precooked).

So I should make a method of it, its like the fast soak pre cook method.

is wbs better than rye berries? less likely for contams? i always get over 50% loss to contams...

I've fooled around with them both. And to be honest with ya, rye is a little better IMO for fruiting. Now i use wbs for bulk spawning.

IMHO, rye is a little better of a performer fruiting than wbs. But i like wbs for bulk spawning.
