all numbers add up to one whole, including zero which doesn't exsist. When you have nothing happen, it is still one nothing happenning and thus something. When you have 5 things happen, that is one set of 5 things.

but there's still a difference. one set of 5 things is different from one set of 6 things, or of 1 thing, or of everything. if they were truly the same thing, there would be no basis for discussion over whether or not they are the same thing. we'd all just nod and say 'mm-hmm'. but instead, we discuss.
