Weilii Weather Present
    #3588352 - 01/06/05 11:47 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

It has been in the 60-70 degree weather for about a week now, here in cherokee co., GA and weilii patches seem to not be growing since there has been no rain. But luckily last night and right now we are getting rain and hopefully these high temps and this moisture can induce pinning for the little suckers to grow. Especially if you check woods patches, since they don't rely on live bermuda grass to thrive on and all the grass is dead this time of year. If anyone actually goes out to check patches please post any info you get from your patches. I'll do the same.
Peace out,
Shroomerjon

i don't think you're going to get much of anything. after the freeze you guys had for a few days (ours was worse a bit north)... i think the season is over.

Well I went out to my woods patches today and found lots and lots of mycelium growing right on my weilii patches...I'm thinking that maybe 2 or 3 more days of this warm weather in addition to this rain we have had they might grow. After one freeze, that happened about three or four weeks ago, I went out and found a few weiliis while the ground was still frozen. Does anybody know if this is normal? and does anyone think they might grow given these conditions. Thanks and peace,
shroomerjon

I think you bring up an interesting point. There are always some weilii that pop up in the spring, less than fall but they're still weilii. This weather we've been having has been very spring like.

I'd like to know what LK has to say about this subject, he's been picking them the longest out of any of us here.

Same in mind here...I was thinking he was the man to ask due to the fact he has answers to most of my questions in past posts...I mean if cubensis can grow in kansas in the cold, I'm sure weilii can grow as long as the given conditions are perfect. Well I'll post again tomorrow after I check my patches again.

It is SOOOSOOSOOSOO warm outside and I will go check my patches today! I am excited and expect to find at least some pins growing from my woods patch. I checked it last thursday and the mycelium was fresh and hopefully over the weekend was long enough for the weilii to sprout. Guys, please check your patches and post what you find so I can set my mind at peace that weilii are growing. Peace out.

I dunno about weiliis (i don't know of/can't find any patches in my area [Powder Springs, GA]), but cubes definantly aren't growing, even with the rain etc. I found a grand total of 2 cubes after 3 hunts, both of which were COMPLETELY bacteria infested!

P.S. does anyone know of weilii activity in Powder Springs?

Checked a couple of my spots yesterday...nothing, nada. No big deal though as I have more Weilii than I know what to do with. In fact I don't even bother picking them anymore.

Are the patches that you guys checked bermuda grass lawn habitat or are they pine/redclay habitats? The one of mine that has mycelium was the red clay soil/pine straw habitat. The mycelium was growing throughout the pinestraw and under the pinestraw on the red clay. I still havent gone to check but I am leaving now to do so. I was thinking about taking some of the mycelium and putting it in a temp. regulated box that I have with some red clay from that certain spot and trying to get it to pin. That is if there are no pins already there when I go check...Well, thatnks for the replies and i'll post my results when I get back. Peace out,
Shroomerjon

shroomerjon i'm still waiting on a picture of one of these weilii that you have found in the woods. Also, why are weilii more prevalent in bermuda than in other types of grass?

in the woods they are like ghosts... blending in SO clear with the forest floor you will step all over them and not realize till you check the bottom of your shoes when you get home and find a blue slushie of weilii smelling specimens

Honestly- bermuda can be JUST as hard to find them in- if it is long enough... luckily most places require homeowners to keep the grass short

those are Lizards_kings finds ain't they? at least a couple of them I recognize as his..

Awesome pics though.. I am going to spend much more time this year in the woods and out of neighborhoods.. Even though the chances are much smaller.
