Ive found absoulutely NOTHING but little white inactive shrooms growing on sod. I went hunting all day Tues. (the day after it rained). I was very disapointed.
We got very little rain on Monday, but I was stil holding out hope.
Just to save ya'll a fruitless search, I looked EVERYWHERE. All my old spots from last year and a bunch of new spots.
The forcast calls for rain next Tuesday. I wish hurricane Isabel would bring some rain out this way sooner, but that doesn't look hopeful.
If you find any Weilii's please please please post some pics, or at least inform other fellow hunters. Also, don't be STUPID!. The last thing we need is someone fucking it up for all of us. If someone asks what your doing creeping around their hood, say you lost your cat Fifi and youre looking for her. If youre in a public place (i.e. a park) and someone hassles you, say you lost a frisbee. Do NOT say you're hunting for shrooms.
Sorry to be captain obvious but I'd hate to see cops cruising around looking for hunters.
HAPPY HUNTING :bong:

Nah, it doesn't need to warm up at all, this has been perfect Ps. weilii weather, all except the shortage of rain. This year just hasn't been a good year for Ps. weilii. When we finally do get rain there will be some decent harvests to be made, but nothing like last year.

I dont just SAY it like that, I add drama and intrigue and a bit of southern home style acent.. works like a charm!

Sometimes I feel I deceive them, oh well..

As for weilli, me and a friend went hunting 2 days after a short scattered thunderstorms a few days ago... no weilli, no mushrooms at all.

LK said "When we finally do get rain there will be some decent harvests to be made, but nothing like last year"

No disrespect, but how are you so sure the fruits won't be what they were last year? I've heard you mention this in a couple of posts. I've gone through last years posts, and the real season didn't even start till right about now (second week of september). I think we're just waiting on rain. Isn't it true that last year you found a lot more spots, and a lot of people starting finding patches as well, making it seem like it was more prolific than previous years. Or do you actually think last year there were actually more weilii than the previous year?

I don't mean to sound like a dick,, but LK, is one of the resident weilli experts around here,,, he's been a member for like 4 or 5 years,, and has found weilli in prolific amounts, "with the pictures to prove it", if Lk,, says he doesn't feel that this year will be as good as last I'm sure he has his reasons. Give it hell Ladle2...... I may be down in the Atl. soon hopefully I catch the fruitings....

Re: Weilii Hunting news [Re: nofind_um]

I hear ya ladle. But there were defintely more bumper crops throught the season last year. The rain fall last september was great, it was defintiely an above average wet fall. Last year wasn't only better for weilii, but for morels, Pan subbs, chanterelles etc...The later half of this year has year has been dry compared to last.

So yes, even though last year I really figured out the weilii and found alot of new patches, I believe it was because it was an above average season for Ps. weilii. When there are that many up and the conditions are perfect your bound to run into to new patches that you didn't notice before, or that never fruited as abundantly or as prolific as previous less than perfect seasons. I think the amount of folks here at the shroomery who found them last year kinda proves that. Do you think that everyone was blind to weilii beforelast year? Or was it just a really good season with abundant fruitings and optimal conditions that helped so many people find Ps. weilii?

Only time will tell, and I'd love to be wrong. But I do believe that this season will not yield nealry as many Ps. weilii as last. All mushrooms have their good and bad years. Last year was really good. Granted season may have peaked in september last year, but there should have been more fruitngs by now.

Each season is a little different. Last year was really bad here in the pacific northwest but you guys on the eastcoast got a crazy good mushroom season. Perhaps there is a cycle to everything because this year is looking like its gonna be EXTREMLY good here in the pacific northwest.

Good point.

LK said: "Do you think that everyone was blind to weilii beforelast year?"

Yes. I think when I started finding them, and Remy started finding them in addition to all your previous collections, it made people think "Hey maybe I can find them too!" You put all your tips out there and a couple people made use of them, and then a pyramid thing started.

I will definately take your word on the fact that it was a better season for all mushrooms in general. I still think however that their are going to be plenty weilii in the next couple of months. I think the actual peaks were in oct. last year. The season took off in sept. and tapered off in dec.

"Or was it just a really good season with abundant fruitings and optimal conditions that helped so many people find Ps. weilii?"

Yes, to some extent. Then again I think all your tips and the "buzz" created were also a big contributing factor.

Like I said ladel, I truely hope I am wrong, I would love to be proved wrong and find a boat load of Ps. weilii this fall. I am not making these predictions about this fall with certainty, I know nothing more than the next person about how the weather conditions to come will be. I'm not trying to act like the all mighty authority of Ps. weilii and its fruiting patterns. If I come Across that way its not intended. I just like guessing like the next person does.

So when season does get here, you still down for a couple hunts yet this year ladel?

To some extent you are the authority of ps. weilii on these boards. That's why I was questioning You, trying to get a second opinion out of you. I'm an optimist, and don't want to hear a bummer of a season is to be expected from someone who's opinion is valid. You know what I'm saying?

This picture is a hoot;

-That beverage looks mighty satisying to drink.

LK, maybe the places you have found them before are not going to produce time and time again every season.
-Maybe the weilii?s are there but just fruiting in new undiscovered places this year, places that havent been picked by the thousands.
-Last year Atlanta was blessed with some seriously perfect shroom weather. For some reason maybe not the most perfect mushroom weather this year.

In your pictures, that is a whole lot of shrooms man.
-Thousands of weilii?s, and you only need 1, 2, or 3 fresh weil?s for a trip, and here you are with pictures of 4,000+ shroom caps.
-Maybe if you pick a thousand weilii?s from a neighorhood lawns one weekend, and then next weekend you pick another thousand, maybe that is enough shroom picking to colapse the mycelial structure, for the next season.

But i think that the weather was just absolute perfection for Atlanta last year and then you were clearly up to your nose in shroom finds.

This other one really had me going the other year you posted it;

-That is simply just a  crazy amount of these mushrooms.
-You could have had a backyard shroom party and tripped out...3-400 people.
-That?s a ton of shrooms dude.

Imagine, in the picture above, how many extra spores those shrooms were about to lay in the lawns for the future of the next crop, this years crop, that hasnt came yet.

I dunno, maybe i?m wrong, i?ve just always felt that Psilocybe mushrooms are much more delicate and soft than they are dynamic and strong. They are quietly dropping their spores.

Keep shroomin,
GG

i'm not sure if they go that far north, it wouldn't hurt to look. Weilii's like a place of new development usually, such as a place that put down grass around 7-10 years go (as apposed to a field thats been around for 100). They like fescue grass. I've found some around office parks/buildings where they have all their nicely trimmed grass, you can usually just walk on the side walk with an open backpack and walk down the sidewalks tossin' em in your book bag.

i have picked about 50 weilii this season....mostly in july and august....posted a few photos during that time. every time i head down to atlanta, my patches have at least a few if not many many more.

but like the lizard king said....it is NOTHING like last year!! this year looked very promising with all the rain we had during may, june, and the early part of july. but just as the season was getting ready to rip open, the god's turned off the spicket.

the rains will come sooner or later...i hope. but i have enough weilii to last 10 yrs.....i picked around 300 last year....and considering i only dose for enlightenment 4 times a year.....i'll be enlightened for a while.

another thing to note....i was picking weilii up to thanksgiving last year and that was after a couple of frosts. weilii's are pretty strong in this regard.....actually they are mighty strong in all regards!!
