The gentle swastika tattoo in the bme link is really nice... I was thinking of picking that book up...

I think what has become of the swastika is horrible... I was thinking about working one into a tattoo I'm working on for my arm... I think that what has become of it doesn't need to be. People need to inform and reform... just like marijuana laws, it's all about proper informing so you can reform... My mother and I disagree on this subject entirely. I say that the true meaning of the Swastika needs to be heard and I'd be willing to mark myself with one. Not only for my own personal pleasure but also as a psa. She feels that the symbol embodies all of the horrors of the world wars and nothing more... on a side note her boyfriend is Jewish and lost family in the Holocaust. heh She once told me she would write me out of her will if I got one tattooed on me anywhere.

It's sad that symbols that have such beautiful meanings are turned into something horrible. Stupid Nazis.

The pentacle is a another one that has beautiful meaning of beauty and perfection but now a lot of people thinks it is tied with devil worship.  :sad:

I say forget the swastika. It's an awesome looking symbol and it used to mean something good, but there's no way you can reverse the damage that's been done to it. The swastika now = Nazi Germany. There's nothing you can do about that now. I say make a new symbol and go with that.

I tried to tell this to my black friend. He bought a rebel flag headband a while back and started wearing it around town saying that he wanted to reverse it's meaning. I told him that there's no way to reverse the meaning unless he does something with it that's BIG, which he won't. The rebel flag = slavery, and it will always mean that just the same as the swastika.

Half my family is Jewish and I disagree. Just because hitler stole it doesnt meen its bad. If some mass-murdering fuck head got caught covered in mushrooms and pot leaves, would you stop enjoying them as symbols of your expanded mind sets? I dont think so. Most people just need to be educated on the roots of the symbol and it can be re-introduced as a positive symbol... not that I feel it should be plopped up all over the place. Hitler painted landscapes too, it doesnt make the German country side any less beautiful I assure you :wink:

it is in north american indian art anyway.

When I see swastikas all over Mexico, even though it stands for something completely different there, it still suprises me first and even makes me sad. Because of its history it gives off a very negative vibe.
