It's not really semantics.

It's dogma of a sort and also could be science.  We have not evolved into knowing what some have claimed for a very long time.  Most of our species is not interested in after life consciousness and most claim to already know yet can't prove squat.

Do we need to know anything about life after consciousness in order to arrive at the conclusion that there is a whole that encompasses all? If we define the universe as everything, is it not everything that is and ever will be? If that's not how we define the word 'universe' (and for various reasons, it isn't in most contexts), then is there not a set of ideas we can attribute to mean the all encompassing whole that is? In that sense, to me, the sky's no longer the limit. 'Everything' is one because 'everything' is all there is.

You can't really argue with the idea that everything is one, because we've provided the very definition of everything in the statement. It's self defining. This is what I mean by it being a semantic argument, at it's core that's what it is. That's not to be taken to be a bad thing, the word semantic has a negative connotation a lot of the time.

All things in this universe came from the same big bang and float around in the same expanse of spacetime.

I get where your taking this. But I just think it's a waste of time. Why worry about life after death. We're not even done living. People are dumb. I'll probably end up rotting in the ground like so many before me. All though I want to be turned into fodder and planted as a tree.

Why were thinking beyond death is insane. I have what I want to happen after death. Who knows where my conciousness goes. I'm hoping just emptiness.

in my experience when confronting the oneness of the universe, there is no choice. i is consumed long before an opportunity for embrace. the best i can hope for is a cuddle afterwards.
