Mushrooms And The Blind...
    #342985 - 06/17/01 06:23 PM (22 years, 9 months ago)

Hi, I was watching a show called Inquiring Minds, and they were talking about when you rub your closed eyes and you see those visuals, and it reminded me of the closed eyed visuals you get on mushrooms. They said that even the blind see these visuals when they rub their eyes. So I was just wondering if the blind were to take mushrooms , if they would see closed eye visuals. I know if I were blind I'd want to see anything I could even if I have to use illegal, delcious, mushrooms.

I read a trip report here on the shroomery from a supposed blind person. I believe it was called something like "Magic Sunday". Though after I read it, I was a bit confused.
How did she write it, if she's blind? How did she find the shroomery? How did she learn to type so well? (No typos, except one). Etc. It was a very nice report/story however.

how did s/he find/read the page?... (i'm guessingthis is how he/she did it) there is speech software out there that will read off any given webpage to you... also there could have been a friend that let him/her know.... in addition, as to how he/she typed, did you ever wonder what the hell those little bumpy things on the keyboard are?.... you know, the ones on the "J" and "F" keys? They are FOR blind people. besides, alot of people i know can type FLAWLESSLY (or close to it) without looking at the screen OR the keyboard. these are all just my guesses though.

I was thinking that you might only be able to dream if you werent born blind, cuz if youve seen the earth before, or anything you'd think of that in your dreams. If you got blind in an accident i think it might be possible to dream or hallucinate.

on a similar note, would a blind person be arrested and put in jail for possession of mushrooms?

yes, because they dont get any special favours just because they are blind. the police would pobly do a full cavity search just for fun. now thats something a blind man can dream about at night.

There are 3 types of people in this world: Those who can count, and those who can not.

The question of the blind and hallucinogens was one that I had wondered about for a long time. I finally wrote to the national institute of the blind, and they gave me the e-mail address for a guy who knows a bit about this stuff. What he told me was that people who are born blind often develop atrophy in the visual cortex, and thus do not dream/trip/etc visually. Contrary to what the show told you these type of blind people usually do not see spots and what not when they rub their eyes. People who were once sighted ( even if only for a few years) May or may not see in their minds. He said that in his experience blind people have an even more difficult time navigating their environment while under the influence of these drugs, and that the experience can be frightening, etc yadda yadda??.Damn interesting if you ask me.

I'd assume blind people still hallucinate. They may have auditory tactile or olfactory hallucinations. Same sences may be involved in them dreaming. Also, sometimes, when on shrooms I can perceive things with my eyes closed (I can sometimes navigate the environment and/or feel things around me), so I'd assume these abilities would be all the more natural for blind.

all i can say is, if i became blind, i would kill myself the second i knew. theres nothing to look forward to (both figuratively and literally)...sight is my favorite of senses, and without it i feel like nothing. i even get anxious just keeping my eyes closed! :P

The question is a generilization...."EVERYONE TRIPS DIFFERNTLY" one blind person from birth will still "SEE" differently form another birthed blind. A blind person that has lost sight from accident will see different visions from the same. Hallucinations and visions are independent not group deficient....

I also recently wandered what would happened if you gave a blind person some shrooms. would they hallucinate? I don't know. There's only one way to find it out: finding a blind person and feed him/her shrooms! woul be an interesting experiment.

sucked into the vortex....
