Blind people tripping?
    #1696666 -

I was just wondering what it would be like for a blind person to trip. Would they get CEV's? Would the have more auditory hallucinations than most of us? Or even tactile and other sensory hallucinations?

Yea I've been meaning to post this question. I asked my dad who is a doctor and he thinks most blind people would get CEV's, because they can happen without a functional optic nerve. Input from the optic nerve can influence CEV's, but they are driven by another part of the brain entirely.

Give some acid to the next blind person you see and follow them around. It's not like they'll see you slipping a micky into their coffee. Don't pet the dog though. The dog is working. And don't dose the frickin dog, that would be cruel.

I guess you could go to your local community college to the special services division. Many blind students take their tests there. Ask them. I used to read to blind students for a community college. One of them claims to have gone blind at a concert after taking acid and then dehydrating. He blames the dehydration, not the acid. Good guy.

If they can get CEV's while tripping, you would think they'd have some intense CEV's anyways. (you know like if you stare at something for long enough without blinking you start hallucinating)

i dunno just a theory

If they were born blind the they would get no forms of visuals. Shrooms can only stimulate areas of your brain that exist, the seeing part doesn't do shit if you never saw anything...

Same w/ completely color blind people, they never see colors.

They have different brains so would trip differently, I read something about it on erowid but theres no way in hell I'm gonna go look for it lol

If you at one time saw then you would get CEVs.

this question's been posted a few times..

I believe they would "see" things, but they wouldn't know that they were "seeing things," they would just be experiencing something different.

...Uh, that's not true.

Most blind people still have the workings in the brain to see -- there's just something fucked up between the brain and the rest of the world. Abstract CEVs would probably occur.

Total greyscale color blindness is, IIRC, extremely rare. Most color blind people can see colors, they just get confused between them.

I say we find a willing, blind-from-birth person and dose them. %)

Being blind is a disfunction in the eye not the brain. Their visual part of their brain still works. Colorblind is just when your cones dont work but your rods do. Or some of your cones dont work.
I think the blind person will still feel the effects of mushrooms or cid but i don think they would see anything. They may think they see something.
I dunno. I wish i new blind people

This is correct. I have read two different studies that show the occipital lobe rewires itself to process different brain functions when the eyes quit working. The process begins to happen in less than a week.

If the brain doesn't know what its like to see I dont believe it is possible for shrooms to create vision in there brain. The seeing part isn't 'saved' for they eyes, any part of your brain that isn't used ends up getting taken over by other parts.

Total color blindness is extremely rare but I believe experiments have been done on them that shows they dont see color, I read that somewhere on erowid. Since they've never seen color shrooms can make them see it. Shrooms stimulate things that already exist in you. This is in the completely color blind people.

Besides even if they did see (or see color) they wouldn't know so theres not really a good way to find out.

I saw 3 new colors while tripping hard hehe. But I cant picture them looking back.. Its like a black void.

We have to make difference in what is to "see" in a ethogen trip.
Most of the visuals are in the "eye" of the mind not the ocular eye.
So I Think a blind person will have the similar cev?s of some one who is not blind.
That in the case of some one that became blind.
Now in the case of some one who is born blind, we will never know what goes on because there will be no way for them to relate the experience, they may see colors and cev's but don?t have a way to relate to the language of those things.
The other possibility that there trips are in audio hallucinations.
I will be very interested to here the experience of a blind person trip.

I took some shrooms with a blind person once. They were pretty old though and not very potent, but we got kinda high off them. He told me he took shrooms like a year before and black was coming out his eyes. Beats me how he knows what black is.

Not always. Some people are blind but they do remember things they saw... Their eyes work fine but the connection to the vision center of the brain is damaged so they have no vision, but the connection from the eyes to the memory part of the brain still works. These people do recognize things while they don't actually see anything.

I would think it would be really intense for a blind person.......being blind you really cant open your eyes if closed eye visuals become too crazy or vice versa?

Right?  :bong:

It's my favorite color when I trip.

I agree. Many blind people claim to have intense mental imigry. I think many would still get CEV's.

Sometimes.

There are a whole lot of different reasons someone can end up blind.

Of course you can open your eyes... Blind people can open/close their eyes , it's just all black. And they are called CLOSED eye visuals , so if a blind persons eyes arent closed how can they see closed eye visuals...

It's not true that blind people's visual cortex (?) does not function. It works as normal, when they use btraille for example. I guess a blind person would have many sensory and auditory hallucinations...

Re: Blind people tripping? [Re: Gorian]

...Uh, CEV's haven't got anything to do with the state of your eyes.  They've got to do with whether or not a (functional but trippin') visual cortex is receiving any kind of real input, which it is not, when your eyes are closed.  This would most likely be what would happen to a blind person who has a fully functional visual cortex.

OEVs occur when the cortex is receiving information, and that information is altered.  This will obviously not happen in a truly blind person.

Remember -- the peripheral bits don't matter.  The brain is the thing that's tripping.   Input gets altered, and if there isn't much input, information is falsified and designated input.

Re: Blind people tripping? [Re: Sev]

When a person is born certain areas of their brain are ready to do specific functions. If that area of the brain is not used the brain cells there form connections with other areas around it....When you do shrooms, the scientific reason you feel/think the way you do is because brain cells fire randomly and different parts of the brain are stimulated. Hence the explanation for tasting colors, feeling sounds, etc. If the visual part of your brain was NEVER used there would be no 'sight' or visual memory recorded in any cells so every cell could fire and they would not 'see' anything. Its just like the 'do blind people see in there dreams' or 'do color blind people dream in color.' Only if they had before.

If they saw at anytime in there life then its a different story. Also just because they cant *actully* see things doesn't mean other crap cant happen that will make them think they can. Like even w/o sight people still have an idea of what objects are like...

Thats just as far as science goes...if you believe the spirts of the shroom raise your soul to a realm beond physical matter or w/e then things are different. Either way I dont think it makes a difference...
