Darkstar it sounds like there could be a biological component to what you were talking about. Have you ever been treated or seen a psychologist?

I want to know what besides genetics makes a person produce abnormally low levels of dopamine that can cause feeling depressed.

Anyone know anything? Reasearched showed, most people with chronic depression and those who smoke as well as those in jail, produce abnormally low levels of dopamine-the feel good hormone.

I think it sucks , the only solution is prescription drugs. Who knows something about all of this and can add to it?

Negative people tend not to give a rats ass about much as in 'what other people think of them" (this conserves a lot of vital energy others burn through putting on pretenses

Do you think it's possible for a positive person "not to give a rat's ass" about what others think of them, still conserve the vital NRG only instead of taking out this NRG on others using it constructively say like utilizing it to stay in good physical shape?

And we DO have a forum here in which to vent: It's called OTD  :yesnod:

"My life seems to go in cycles."

Sure, join the club.   Life is a roller coaster.

From your post, perhaps yours is amplified by swings in your seratonin levels partly from the cid?  Cid is there, seratonin amplified, you feel good. Cid goes away, seratonin level drops way low, you feel irritable and negative, making seratonin drop even further and stay low.  Cid comes back, seratonin goes through the roof.  Mood is enhanced.

Definitely! That would be me most of the time. You have been reading me. I am mostly positive , joyfilled and optimistic, yet I say a lot that shows, I can be ME not care how I am judged, and I prefer to construct rather then destroy.

I am not 100% removed from caring what others think. Depending on who, I can value others opinions and take them to heart.

I can be negative if that how I am feeling to and I do express it if I feel I must speak or act. Rare for me to hide it under a pretense, I would rather say nothing if I felt I had to hide it.

Ultimately, because you have seen me be both, I like to speak and act in resonance with what I truly feel and think in the moment. I change alot from moment to moment to.

If I am tired I notice sometimes I force myself to participate in life when I should be chillen and recharging. That runs me into major short term energy deficits and stress unduly.

Though I have talked a lot about constructing versus destroying, I do beleive in deconstructing for the purpouse of re-building better models. I don't like flat out "take aways" because they throw balance off. if I go to take away, I need to replace it with something else to keep balance.

I do fall into the negatives at times, mostly if I am not watching my surrounding influences cuz I leave myself open and am chameleon like. When I catch it or myself being destructive, I move to nip it in the bud through understanding and balance out again. I don't stay negative for long- it's not Natural for me to be.

Sorry for the babble, guess I just could've answered  "Yes, I think its possible for the most part"

By the Freak, you impress me as an example of it being possible! Lots of people here do!

Don't just use Dopamine to discuss depression, many other neurotransmitters can be the major culprit: Seratonin, Melatonin... and the truth is, we don't know enough about that link to discuss it in terms of chemical causes, it really is best to just use the general term "depression" except for a few cases.

Anyway my background at least with personal experiences is Bipolar I disorder and Seasonal affective disorder. Triggers for me include very low blood sugar, not getting time to 'release', low light levels, when i am working out or surfing frequently, stopping will do it. The normal ups and downs and life usually don't do it when i am already down or up. That is, winning the lottery won't do a whole lot when I am depressed, or losing my wallet when I am manic.
