It is pretty much what he said. He specifically says 'Is it not written in your law I have said you are gods. We know that what the scripture says is true etc..

I would start a discussion with you. I know the Scripture by heart.

I don't have my bible with me so this is what I got online and it is different to what my bible says, probably cos mines catholic.

"Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'[5] ? 35If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture cannot be broken-- 36what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?

OK.......... yes the Catholic bible is Whacked

Jesus was saying that we all carry God with in us.


But

Let me get my Bible and read the entire passage. I'll be back in a few mins

I suggest you do the same. It becomes very important to read the entire chapter to understand the writers intent.

To many times people take things way out of context :thumbup:

And the passage in the scripture Jesus was refering to I think was Psalms 82:6

"I said, 'You are "gods";
you are all sons of the Most High.'

Very little of what Jesus said is actually in the bible...

If it wasn't for Emperor Constantine changing the bible to suit his needs, then I feel it would have been a much more pertinent document.

OK if you read the entire chapter you will see that Jesus was approached by the towns people demanding to know if he was the Messiah?

Jesus answers them " I have already told you but you choose no tot believe "

Jesus then went on to explain that he and his father are one and the same.

These people wanted to stone his ass. They were convinced he was a Liar, a blasphemer. They said he was only a man and that was just trying to make himself GOD!! Wow they really wanted to kill him

Unfortunately my Studied Bible is in our truck back home. grrrrrrrrrr

I can not quote the old testament scripture tonight.

But what is happening here is Jesus was making a comparison to old text that he was God. And God was him. And the people were very pissed he was calling himself God.

What he was trying to say is that If you believe I'm the son of God than how do I Commit Blasphemy?

Anyway I can not give you supporting Old text. I don't not have the cross reference in front of me.


It can be frustrating to understand what Jesus was talking about when he quotes old testament and unless I have the exact Scriptures. It will be hard for me to explain

But I have studied this once before

The bottom line is Jesus was saying that He is the Messiah even if you don't believe it. Your belief changes nothing. There own scriptures spoke of his coming.The talk of Then being Gods is not really what he was saying he was quoting there own scriptures.

They were very very pissed and when they tried to kill him he just kinda slipped away.

I'd interpret it literally as saying we are all gods, which makes christianity compatible with eastern religions.

How can two version of the Bible be so conflicting that so far half this thread is dedicated to resolving the conflict just in order to begin the discussion.

Geez, and people wonder why I don't believe anything in the Bible.

Perhaps because there is over 2000 versions of the Bible...each one interpreted by an individual in a different way.

Unless any of you can speak Aramaic, I doubt that we'll ever know the original content.

Well it can be disturbingly hard to understand

I can only tell you that the spirit of God guides my understanding of the words. I have several translations

It is his heart living in mine that makes some things very clear.


Anyway seeking God and his truths needs no Bible. It takes a very serious effort in private and a willingness to open yourself to the unseen.

I also felt as many of you do. But there was a time in my life I really needed to bo close to God. It was thru many hours of prayer that I got to know God.

Without a prayer life, God can not be heard. The when you learn to feel god thoughts and know his ways. The Bible can become a very close friend.

I still find stuff I know is nothing but Junk. That is between me and God.

All I can say is God will speak to you in Prayer. I am not saying you hear some Voice like Johny Knoxville spewing. LOL

But you just know when it's God's thouhts and not your own.

Jesus is very real and can be found without ever reading a word of the Bible or stepping foot in any church.

You know the first Christians never had any building. It wasn't until the Romans got involved did the Chuch building thing start


Whew I had better shut up..................LOL
