Hi Alien,
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Over the past year I've been wanting to get into Linux for many reasons but the main one is simply becuase its not a Microsoft product:)
Have you ever tried using "Opera" as your browser? It's not too bad:) I have a link for a site that explains how to turn an old 486 into an OpenBSD firewall:) Yet another I'd like to do.
Microsoft hogs resources and with their new OS "Whistler" and "Black...something or other" they'll be very internet dependent. In other words whenever you get online the OS will report back to MS for "updates" or some other uneeded crap!
From what I've heard, Microsoft is making one more version of "Office" and then after that it will be a lease only application that will be accessible only through their servers? How true that is I'm not sure but I can easily see it. Think about it, if you own a company with 100 people, legally you need to buy 100 CAL's (client access licenses).
Well, if you can "rent" the software and recieve free updates and no longer have need for upgrades....and if it only costs $20 a month...which would you do?
Me? I'd say go F yourself and give me the full application.. Actually I'd just run Solaris StarOffice:)

lana.. I haven't setup any OpenBSD firewalls. W/ linux it's simple enough, though. I'm even doing it for clients to beat the cost of a commercial box. Last one was less than an hour.
Right, MS is going for the strangle-hold w/ their clients. My advice.. start familiarizing yourself w/ other OSs. Unless you really like old games, there's no reason stay locked in to MS. The biggest market won't even be a computer, though. Just a device. Probably some evolved form of Tivo (which also has a service fee).
