fruit growing in towards cake

Uhm.. a pin started growing very nicely.. cap separated from the stipe and it continued growing from the side of the cake..

except it kept curving around and now the cap is touching (!) the side of the cake.. It's like a letter C.. I think it might be because the base is very very fat..

anyway, should one go ahead and cut it off or let it keep growing?
