Cakes versus Pans

I want to know from people who have tried both cakes and casings filled in pans. Which one will yield more fruits? Specifically, lets say I used the MMG guide and made 4 jars of mycelium , would it be better if I left them in the cake form or used them in a casing for a full pan sheet. I am in the process of trying this out. Within the month I'll be able to see, but just for now, I would like to know if making the casing and putting it in a pan would be better. I think the variations are mostly with the surface area: 1) Cakes will yield fruits on the side, but they will be twisted and mutated because they want to grow upward. 2) If grown in a pan, all fruits will have equal level and will look similar. So is the only real difference the shapes the fruits come out? Or will the method actually affect the numbers of fruits per flush? Also, another question related to this :I have buckets. I thought that it would be interesting if I put MORE casing than instructed to, to try and see if this would affect the number of flushes (the more casing the more nutrients that the mushrooms can use) That way I am able to yield more crop when its picking time. Any suggestions and experiences?

you'll get more from the casing, if it is your first time i wouldnt put all 4 cakes together. i'd just case each one seperatly, bettery yet try the SoS tek.

i have tried both as a first timer and grow cakes and casing at the same time. i got more shrooms from the casing but they tend to be smaller in size and with lots ofabhorts it is harder to get all shrooms off the casing ( i used staright verm) the cakes yeilded fewer shrooms but they seemed bigger in size and it was easier to clean the cakes and get all material (none was wasted) i personally am also annoyed when picking fruits from the casing because there is always a bunch of verm on the base and i can never get it all off. then when i eat the shrooms there is this crunchy stuff i keep chewing...blah!!!

You get higher yields from casing... you're idea about getting more flushes is along the right path. Contams end up getting ahold of your casing layer if you're not carefull. If you want really good yields you could try a dung or straw casing. Good luck and have fun ; )

Thanks guys, I kinda thought that casing would be better. Ill try some cakes seperately in a poor man terranium setup just to see how well they come out.
