Cop/Pan Cyans

Ok, first of all hello all shromerites. I'm a long time lurker ect ect.

I'm trying to grow some Copelandia Cyans. (alias Pan. Cyans.) After a lot of failures with finch / popcorn , has anyone had any success innoculating a staright PF cake.

Before you all shout and wail about FAQ etc i'm not talking about fruiting on a PF cake - just growing the Myc. I have extensive experience spawning straw, straw / poo.

I want to know whether a grated / sliced cake mixed with a suitable bulk component and cased blah blah will grow under all the proper conditions for pans.

I suggest an admin move this to the advanced forum. Not many people here know about Pan Cyans, at least past the fact that they do exist.

I have not delved into Pan. cyans yet, but my general impression is that pan cyan mycelium is a bit more delicate than Ps. cubensis. So on that note grating would probably not be advisable, but slicing seems like a less harmful procedure.

the hawks eye has a really detailed and infomative tek for getting pans going. I have not tried them yet so i cannot give you any help { i have a print on the way} There way seems like it will work pretty good, just click on pan tropicalis and you can see if it is any help to you..good luck from the Tx Tek..

hello mixup,

alas i also have no experience in this arena, but i found this link - basically PF tek adapted / bastardised to use sawdust and bran for mycelium growth, cardboard and woodchips for fruiting. i intend to try it myself soon, so let me know if this looks interesting:

COpelandia/Panaeolus Cyanescens are dung lovers not wood lvoers - i think that your thinking Psilocybe Cyanescens - the only similarity being their alkaloid content and the latin name for their blue-staining.
Sure you can grow pan cyans on a straight brf cake and then use it to spawn manure or straw - dont cut the cake, rather crumble it in sterile environments - as its mycelia will not compete at all well with any introduced nasties...

Thanks BM. I'll give it a go. The only reson I have'nt already is that i'm down to the last 1/8th of my print (and they are expensive ! circa 30 euros from consious dreams in the dam).

I don't know why I keep failing with finch (i suspect that it may contain some sort of preservative)

I'm also gonna try and get the Cops growing on some agar today (although not much success with that either - no glove box and i keep getting the evil mold along with the germinating Cops (in different regions of the plate)

in addition to BRF and birdseed, i recomend rye. the kernels breake up easily uppon shaking, making it well suited towards use as spawn.
there is good information on the preparation of such spawn, along with other information specific to this species here.
btw, check your PMs.

wow...it seems very simple...and not really very different from reg old cubensis cultivation...for some reason I had the idea that you must fruit them on wood chips and it must be around 50-60 degrees....I think I was thinking of azurscens though... thats awesome ill have to try that out. how often did you mist them?
