Nice Edible Shrooms that Grow similiar to Cubies

I was just curious as to which gourmet/edible shrooms (that are good) grow similiar to P. Cubensis. I love mushrooms and would like to grow some nice edibles along with my fun ones. Post up any shrooms that will grow SIMILIAR to cubies if you don't mind.

Like off colonized bird seed or brf like cakes and cased... preferably indoor cultivation and no manure involved ; )

The problem with using the PF tek with most edibles is that you don't produce much. although 3.5 g is sufficient for cubies, this isn't shit for edibles. Hence, you need to isolate a strain and mass produce via liquid innoculation or grain spawn generation.

I think this gets asked quite often - just go through the last couple of pages in the edible forum. From memory its osyters that can work well, but you add  50% sawdust or something to the mix, so not really a big change to the PF tek.

Oysters, shittake, cinnamon caps....

perhaps any mushroom can be grown with the pf. Some wood chips/ aspen bedding/ wood fuel pellets added to the mix will greatly increase results of many edibles.

Manure lovers like shaggy manes, blewitts, and some buttons also fare well, but need more nitrogen and maybe some straw (like hpoo or even straw with some blood meal). (other buttons will want a combination of high nitrogen and wood in addition to the pf formula- like A. subrufescens or blazei)

The choices are only limited by 1) your imagination and creativity, and 2) your ability to research edibles on this site and on the many many many others available to you.

If you cant fruit a poplar mushroom (Agrocybe aerug.) you arent trying. If you can grow cubies, you can grow these - Just on PF style cakes - larger ofcourse.
Just substitute 40% pf the BRF or rye for smoking woodships and your laughing - quite tasty too.

i grew panaeolina foenisecii on organic brown paper towels (the kind from school bathrooms), and brown rice cakes.

If ya good in bottles, you can do agrocybe aegerita, almost same looking :wink:
Agrocybe needs a diferent substrate, let's say you do the cubes with manure millet vermiculit and coir (take what you want :smile: ) and agrocybe with sawdust+chips+millet.
And you want the fruiting temperature at 20 C° not more. They can both grow well on that temp.

Enoki's might do well, you may have to lower the temperature, and alter the substrate a bit , and small cakes are not enough to feed people maybe but it should be worth the novelty of it.

Shiitake is your best bet, since it can be done in a tote with some polyfill vents or even the lid cracked.

You can probably make little hardwood sawdust/bran jars and maybe even get away with BRF cake teks. Allow them to brown for 8 weeks and birth into a shotgun. I've had good results with shiitake even on small amounts of substrate, while oysters really like larger blocks for a substantial cluster.

Enoki do really good in mini monos. Just dial back the FAE a touch and stick the mini in the fridge for a day or two to get it pinning. I used a mix of fuel pellets and coir for mine. Soon as summer is done I am gonna get some more going and take pics.
