Which shrooms do taste good?
    #463124 - 11/19/01 05:22 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

Hi folks,

After some experiences growing shrooms i want to grow some edible ones.

Any suggestions which ones are tasty and not too common?
Shiitake perhaps, what else?

Thanks for each suggestion,

Tengu

Agaricus bisporus is very common, also Pleurotus ostreatus is common. Maybe Stropharia rugoroso-anulata could be interesting for you...

Griffola frondosa (Maiitake or Hen of the Woods) have really good flavor & apparently are not too hard to grow on logs or sawdust blocks--a local grower sells them for $12 a pound at the farmers' market.

Lepiota rachodes (Shaggy Parasol) are one of the tastiest mushrooms in the world & can be cultivated, but apparently only produce one fruiting off a culture so it's not commercially viable to grow them for market. Could be fun for a home project though.
