Thinking of growing

Hey there, I was thinking about trying my hand at growing some edible mushrooms but I have some questions,
1)What's an easy mushroom to start out with?
2)Are there any edible growing teks online? and

I would go for Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster Mushroom) becuase it grows very fast, it grows on different cellulosic substrates like past. straw for example, it doesn't need a casing and tastes great.

I don't know if there are any growing teks online. You can find tn TMC instructions though. And still you could give a search here, some days ago someone asked about the cultivation of Oyster mushrooms. You won't probably find a "Oyster mushrooms for Dummies" Tek as for Psi. cubensis (if you were thinking about something like that).

do oyster mushrooms taste like oysters? i'm guessing they do.

They taste like mushrooms, and have a very fine taste.
They are called oyster mushrooms because of their appearance.

most websites i've gone to either have cultures for sale for hefty prices like $99 at fungi perfecti or spawn bags for real cheap, im trying to figure out why that is

I bought colonized wood dowels for maybe 8 USD. They are often clean enough to gain a pure culture on agar, exactly what I did...

Oysters are the easiest for sure.

There are some techs on line:

but it will save you time to go buy a Stamet's books. They are complete, and the best I have seen so far. Cultures are expensive, that is all there is to it. The cheapest I have seen are here.

I fried some this thursday in butter and to the end som salt. They tasted DELICIOUS!
