Growing on pine sawdust
    #3292932 - 10/29/04 07:44 AM (19 years, 3 months ago)

Up by my wife's parents', there is a lumbermill where I could get a shitload (that's a volume measurement, roughly equivalent to 50 gallons   ) of pine or mixed sawdust (not sure which, certainly some pine, because it reeks of pine).  Are there any good edibles which do well on pine, and where the fruit quality/flavor isn't ruined by growing them out on pine?

Thanks,
Mark

I have heard that mushrooms do not like pine. but i have seen mushrooms in the wild growing on pine trees. so if its free give it a try.

I have heard that SRA and nameko fruit on supplemented sawdust of firs quite well.
I also have grown Shiitake and Enoki on wood fuel pellets made of fir.
But probably these strains would yield more on hardwood sawdust ...
