in Staments GGMM it says that some strains of King Stropharia (Stropharia rugosoannulata) are also growing on coniferous wood, especially firs. Has anybody ever seen one growing on firs, or tried to grow this species on coniferous wood himself ?

Why dont you just do something man.
I find hands on is a more fulfilling way to learn than asking questions.

I'll dredge this one up because I just nailed some dowels into fir logs. Hericium abietis grows naturally on firs.

The dowels were grown through with mycelium of Herecium abietis, or something else ?
I am looking for Herecium abietis now for a long time on the board, but it seems that no one has ever tried that species out.
Keep us updated !

They were grown through with H. Abietis mycelium (they had better be at least, I bought enough of them). I've been taking a "vacation" from work trying to get all my wood innoculated. I'm trying to stack them vertically using some moisture trickery (rather than having to half bury every single one)

We'll see if that works. I hope it does.

Where did you buy the dowels from ?

Do you have to do the water bottle trick now with every single log ?
Guess, no - would be the same work as burying them.

I grew it on fir chips outdoors.

I bought the dowels from FP. And yes, I drill a bottle hole in the end of every log. It's much less work than burying them, imo. That, and I don't have the room to bury them right now in the basement where I have some rough control over the temp.

And ? Did it work ? What were the results ? Did you use the tek described in GGMM for growing them outdoors ?
Did you use a specials strain which was adapted to that medium ?

A lot of questions ...

Also Ganoderma lucidum grows naturally on firs.
(Thanks for the culture, BTW. )

Nice pic !
I thought that it is a different subspecies of Ganoderma lucidum that is growing on firs - just like Herecium erinaceus and Herecium abietis. But I cannot find that link anymore - have to do some more searching.
