As Seuss pointed out, our color scheme is a little confusing at the moment. Vendor names are blue, but trade ratings are green, and mod names are green, but general ratings are blue. After the scathing response I got when I updated the trade rating icon, I figured I'd ask here before I make any changes. How should we make things less confusing? The obvious solution to me is to swap the trade and general rating colors, but I'm not sure if that would cause peoples' heads to explode or something. We could also change the icons and ditch the color association entirely, but I'm not sure how people would feel about that. Anyway please let me know what you guys think.

blue mod names would be a nice fresh change..

I think you should try to keep the visual interface as historically consistent as possible. Don't spook the heard...

but agitating the masses is the fun part.

if you change the mod names to blue, they'd match up with the general rates. then the vendor's names green to match up with trade rates. the colors kind of associate with each other..
just an idea.

plus, i think simply changing the color of the mods would create less confusion...

i'm still trying to work out what that column down the left is all about.

i like being green, and i like my trade rates being green too. not so crazy about the new post icons, but hey, everything changes but change itself, so i can live with it  :heart:

if it ain't broke don't fix it. or make the vendor names normal but with a flag like before. you guys are thinking into it too deep, green means trade so vendors should be green blah blah, things are fine how they are.

Well of course to someone with over 5,000 posts this will seem like a trivial issue :smile:. After you get used to something it will seem pretty intuitive, but there's no guarantee that others will feel the same way. I think it's important to continuously evaluate our usability to keep the site as easy and intuitive for new users to navigate as possible. No visitor automatically knows what the little colored mushrooms do. They may be able to surmise that they're related to the user level or status or rating based on their location, but the whole trade rating/general rating thing is different from what most other sites use on their forums and it could take a little getting used to. I don't think it's a waste of time to look at ways that colors can unobtrusively create more logical associations between different aspects of the forums.

BTW, great suggestions on the spore print / syringe icons! The challenge will be making then look like what they're supposed to look like when they can be a maximum of 12 x 12 with no antialiasing. I'll see what I can do, but if it doesn't work out I'm leaning towards blue mod names.

I am pretty sure that vendors do care about the avatars they have, since they are permitted to advertise their company name in them.. and come on, it gives us all a little more personality on this strange interthing :grin:  I'd be pissed if I couldn't choose my own!
