What is spiritual?

This has always been a word that I don't quite understand. Is spirituality like the experience of the unconscious, like in dreams or meditation? Or is it the awareness of reality like you get after meditating or from smoking pot? Is it a consonant feeling in your mind like the world is harmonious and things make sense? Is it just a helpful way of thinking?

Then is this synonomous with a mental or internal experience? Sorry, but I'm comming at this from a very materialist perspective.
