Too many pins?
    #308975 - 05/04/01 01:28 AM (15 years, 10 months ago)

I have a pf strain casing in an 8x8" aluminum pan that has seriiously about every square inch covered in pins. I count about 20 or so that are of decent size and the rest of em are about 1/4" tall. Will having this many pins slow down the growth or harm my casing in any way?

Sounds like your doing GREAT!!! dont sweat it and let them grow out!@!!!! wait a little bit to see where the abhorts come up and pick them out... unless their tangled in with good shrooms ... when that happens just forget about them and let the good ones grow anyway ... good luck and peace

Seems typical of the PF strain. I had a big PF casing that pinned like mad. I made a big post on it a few weeks ago. Do a search. But anyway about 95% of those will abort giving you a normal yield of normal sized shrooms but there are too many aborts to pick. All these aborts choke the casing layer and prevent future shrooms from growing. PF should strain should be the cake only strain but then you still have to pick 18 million aborts. First flush will be ok but kiss the other ones goodbye.

If an areal photo was taken of my casings there would be about 75% of the area was pins and 25% was casing. Sooooooooo many of those little fuckers abort. It's INSANE how much they pin. All those pins get your hopes up and then they are smashed to pieces when they all abort.

haa haa
pf does have some drawbacks
it takes so long to pick...
actually the little ones are good if you get them before they turn black, and you get quite a pile from pf!

I thought I had too many pins, which was the case on my first cake, and I only had about 3 skinny puny runt mushies, the rest of them abandoned ship! I realized that my cake was probably too dry. I dunked my second cake in filtered water and when that baby pinned, I didn't have any aborts and got one of the biggest mushies so far. I highly recommend the dunk tek for cakes. As a matter of fact, I dunked that first cake and will let you know how it does.

I dunked in filtered water for 12 - 15 hrs in a jar in the fridge.

let them pin in the jar first and you'll get a bigger flush., tom is a slut and a whore to shrooms, if he can't fuck them he fucks them up. I would say anybody who got 95% aborts of any cakes/casings should throw in the towel, your not meant to grow shrooms, you don't have what it takes, sorry tom, but your too much of a dumbass to be growing anything...

\i think that tom bitches about shit all the time.. .that's why he's a big fat bitch... it's hard for him to get out of his fat little world and socialise normaly with other people... that's why he resorts to calling people names and making fun of their quotes... when in reality his quotes must be the dumbest i have ever seen (which doesn't suprise me)... when i came to these Forums (and the DONKEY) i would always see toms big fat face (but he had a different name above the pic before i forget what it was) and he would always say some stupid shit ... he also say's im off in this post too... but that just goes to show you that his fat laden brain needs to be aired out... why shouldn't someone pic the abhorts of their cakes when they see them??? and if the abhorts are tangled up in good healthy shrooms why try to get rid of it and risk fucking up the good ones??? i dont know tom ...i think your just jelous ... jelous that i can getaround with out a crane, jelous that i dont spend most of my time in the bathroom looking for my penis, jelous of the fact that i don't lose things in folds of blubber, jelous that birds sometimes mistake your bellybutton full of drool as a bird bath, so on and so forth..... peace and good luck to they guy who asked about the abhorts

get a humidity gauge (if you don't already have one) keep the humidity and the temps at the right levels, and you shouldn't lose that many pins. seems like an excellent pin set to me.

good luck.

check out the pinning thread in advanced cultivation--i just threw a bunch of information there...

Regarding crazy pin growth with PF strain using casings or cakes......

I think this is especially typical and characteristic of the PF strain. Eventually you should be able to tell which one's are in for the long haul and which pins will abort - at which point I would remove them from the substrate. I can't think of a reason to leave them there any longer than neccessary because they are just soaking up valuable real estate and resources, energy, etc.

This might be interesting to some:
Afoaf recently noticed very agressive and abundant pin growth on their recently birthed PF style cakes (mostly on bottom verm layer). Most of these will abort, but the fruits grew healthy and strong and plentiful. Conditions, temp, humidity, substrate were the same for this batch with one exception....

All cakes were birthed a little later, invitro pinning was abundant in jars and were hard to get out there were so many pins. Now i've always heard that you'll get a better pin set/growth if you leave them in the jars a little longer and this theory seems to hold up well.

How many here pick aborts right away or let them stay?

How many here birth at full colonization, or wait for invitro growth?
