No, they could not cross pollinate.
Best best would be to make a syringe w/ two different strains if you want to try to cross them. Let them germ together.

Although I'm not quite sure why such a silly-ass question would be posted in this forum.... You would get fruits of both strains, most likely. They would NOT cross-pollenate=== Mushrooms do not use pollen!

here, I'm not a genius, but I believe this is how it works. (why they won't make a hybrid) Once the spore creates a mycelial strand, that strand searches for another with the same genetic makeup.(i'm guessing) they do something and start creating a larger network, now looking for nutrients. But I'm sure they don't team up with something they don't recognize, just leave it alone. And they have no attack mechanisms, they only war they could have is over colonization. The one who colonizes fastest might make the other less fortunate.

im no genius either but i was tought by a few people that really knew there shit and this is how it works. take pollen from two different strains and put them together ( not in a syringe ) ....just mix the powder pollen together like X and cola....now....bring about five hundred petri dishes out and a couple pounds of agar and get ready for 450 of those dishes to fruit some crappy ass mushrooms, and if you are lucky a hybrid of the two strains will actually fruit it just wont be potent or have good traits. if you are really lucky you will have one strain that will cross and be more potent than both strains put together. this is wat i was told but gave up on trying because of the money, time, and my impatience to it all. just grow some regular shrooms and have a blast!! but if you want to cultivate a new strain thats how to do it. good luck both ways. and hey, dont worry about the $1...i got good ol' Colt45 sittin warm in me belly and plenty of pollen to let the others know that its still yellow, just like my....oh fuck the correct WORD!!!!! anyways, later

Yes they will compete for the substrate, moisture, etc.. Depending upon which strain is better suited to the exact environment, it will perform better. According to some research on Oyster mushrooms, some of the mycelium from the different strains might actually form clamp connections, and the better suited strain will use those connections to gather nutrients for itself, via the other strains mycelium. It has never been studied in P. cubensis though. The Borg philosophy of mushroom competition. To answer the question, they will compete.
