What happens if there is too much honey, or too little?
1 3/4 cups with one teaspoon of honey. It sounds too little to me.

I think too much honey will make the mycelium look all gross and yellow, and in a way 'drown' the mycelium. Too little honey, the spores won't have enough to feed off of and most likely not grow or grow very little mycelium...

Just Do It. it's supposed to be a light yellow. watch out for contamination though, my Hindu neighbor hasn't had a single successful honey water due to contams...

I just boil some water and after cooling for all of 10 secs add however much honey I feel like. I haven't had a single contam with honey, and I wasn't exactly being sterile.....

vaporbrains is right, i had only 1 non-contaminated jar out of about 10 jars of honey water. different strains, some-what different methods on a few of them and still all got contaminated. i thought at first it was something i was doing wrong, but i guess its just hard to do. maybe its the honey that causes it? try using some Karo syrup or some sort of malt extract. theres also something called dextros that you can use for liquid growth. i might just be talking out my ass too...

you should aim for 4% sugar (honey is about 80-90% sugar). it wont grow well in higher concentrations and i think it dies at about 6%. bacteria is also cant grow well in concentrations of 4%.
so too much=wont grow too little=more chance of bacteria growing

Yep thats exactly what I did... Thats why I was asking what would happen with more honey? And I just looked at the containres and they all have a milky substance floating inside. I only heard of this happening to one person, is this normal? I mean teh one and only verry growthy container I have has a lot of cotton mycelium and the other now have milk.
