I believe there is significant research on this with regard to many different fungi, however I do not know where these papers are available online. If anyone knows, please do share.

Stamets has shown that mycelium can be used to "cleanse" toxic impurities from the ground. Many edibles grown under eucalyptus are "toxic".This should indicate the transferance of toxins through the mycelia. The metabolic products of this uptake are of what are of interest.READ the faq it'll tell you all about chemicals in your fungus.Just do not ask questions regarding natural additives to check theory for some reason they lock those threads

Duh.....Toxins can migrate into mycelium through environment....read the post.besides most pickers know that you do not collect edibles in direct proximity to toxics. What a bunch of snotty psuedo-experts......FEH! Enjoy the "advanced" forum, when you catch up with what's going on in the real world you may be suprised,I know I expected much more professional responses to legitimate questions.instead of the f/u go look it up where it does not exist response i got.Hey Anno no offence good on ya for trying to quantify the exchange. If you can reproduce the toxin exchange in vitro as it is known to occur in species such as galerina in proximity to P.stuntzi it will increase the overall knowlege of mycelial metabolism.Thanx to all for the warm welcome feel free to ask me any questions on cannabis you may have perhaps i can introduce you to the concept of polite response or even educational assistance. PS over .75 of the posts here are only marginaly advanced concepts to experienced mycologists.Perhaps the snooty "do your homework" applies across the board here.Again thanx for the warm response! Peace the "REV"

Well a simple experiment couuld be done by mixing a red dye with the substrate this would simulate the toxins and should be easily visable within the mycelium. This could be used to see if the shrooms turn a diffrent colour due to absorbtion or test to see if it can conaminate any other mycelium. But the answer to the question whether a competition mycelium can pass toxins into another network. The answer would probably be yes due to osmosis.

"as it is known to occur in species such as galerina in proximity to P.stuntzi(i)" I'm guessing here, but I can imagine someone being poisoned from eating stuntzii growing in close proximity to galerinas simply by eating a galerina along with their stuntziis inadvertantly, rather than by any exchange of metabolites between the 2 species. I'm not saying it doesn't happen I'm just thinking of a way it could seem to happen, but not actually happen. edit: just noticed the entire post was italicised for some reason

i believe, sir, that you were the first one to say "READ the faq" i for one would like to see some hard data on this issue that actually is specific to cubensis. the fact that some species eat dioxin and some don't clearly shows that species matters in which substances get picked up.

One thing I haven't heard yet in this thread is the subject of remediation; This could complicate any experiment, as in this situation: Mushroom #1 picks up toxin, transfers toxin to Mushroom #2 where it is immediately broken down or modified slightly enough so that the detection picks up nothing. This would imply that there was no transfer. By their nature, these guys are remediators, by my instinct more so than 'transferers'. Could be wrong. Good luck Anno

I have a friend who claims that he mixed the colonized substrates of P. cubensis and P. azurescens, and that the P. cubensis that fruited were substantially stronger than the strain normaly is.
I want to try this, and also try mixing P. cornucopiae and P. azurescens substrate and test the resulting P. cornucopiae for psilocybin content.

Are amanitoxins known to tranfer from galerinas to other mushrooms? From what I have read the problem is picking accidently some galerinas with whatever other mushroom you were collecting.
