Use a PO box, set up a psuedonym when opening the box. You can say you do creative work online and need to protect your identity when receiving fan mail. Send letters without a return address, or a fake return address and you should be golden.

Edit: drop letters into the blue USPS boxes instead of at the post office or you're mail box. It's near impossible for them to track a latter back to you following these precautions.

Of course there's a small risk involved with receiving letters, however it's very slim.

Eh.

There's not really any 100% reliable way around this issue, in my view.

The problem with fake return addresses or no return address is that they can cause a letter or parcel to be flagged. Even sending something with a name that's not connected to that address can sometimes cause delivery problems.

Obviously, a P.O. Box involves making yourself even more visible. Plus, you gotta go get stuff out of the P.O. Box. At a government building.

If one is particularly concerned, then I think the best way forward is to use real names and addresses where there's no illegal activity happening. Doesn't raise any flags, and if you're just mailing prints and whatnot, there's nothing illegal happening anyway. That does, of course, require having friends you trust who'd be willing to help you out.

I get letters with no return addresses all the time, the post office doesn't have the bandwidth to verify nor do they flag fake ones. What I mentioned is a means of protecting yourself when sending letters.

You can be protected 50% of the time by doing so, or 0% of the time by providing a real return address. Regardless, they'll have a hell of a time tracing back a letter dropped in the blue box with either no return address, or a fake one. It's not worth they're time

Or make more pictures where the mycelium is not out of focus, like in the second one. You can still focus with these opaque containers, although the lower contrast might confuse the auto focus. Fiet, if you use your phone, it might help to tap with your finger on the screen where there is only mycelium, to tell your phone what to focus on.

you can try turn off the auto focus as wll. This definitely will help a lot when trying to take pictures under a  transparent petri lid with reflections..

Kat(Nektar61) use to talk about this.  I feel like some point she made a little write up on taking better pictures of petris with a cell phone.

Sure, I mean, someone mailed me a qp of weed a few years ago and put "Pablo Escobar" on the return address. (I wasn't particularly happy with that lol)

I had someone from etsy mail me some bulky 3-D-printed parts in a regular envelope with a single stamp. It just turned up in my mailbox with a notice of extra postage due. Which was, of course, never collected.

The simple reality is that it's very unlikely to run into any problems at all, regardless of how you approach things. I guess my priority is making sure stuff gets where it's going.

But again, my point was just that there isn't one neat fool-proof solution to this issue. Everything's a trade-off.

Manual focus would indeed be much easier, but how do you do that on a phone?

Definitely not against any rules or law to leave it blank without a return address. I've sent hundreds with no return address. Or I'll just put City in zip code and nothing else. And never had any issues..

I used to work in usps mail sorting.  facility and we never paid attention to any of that shit..  It's mostly machines doing the scanning sorting and reading anyways.

It called a zipsort machine.  I spent two years working with them.

And as long as their bar codes and drop off address is perfectly clear and scannable.  that letter is gonna go to where it should Without any issues..

Most problems with mail are from  unclear addresses and wrong postage amount.

in my experience.  if you accidentally put the wrong postage then they're going to hold that letter and try to get the person receiving it to come pick it up and pay whatever wasn't paid by the sender.

Unless you put a return address and they're going to send it back to you telling you you didn't put the correct amount.

Right don't be stupid and cause attention to yourself. Somebody once told me use nicknames like the king and whatever and I'm like now that may for whatever reason flag you. However most of these letters wait up to an ounce and they're just not paying attention to them like that. They go so freaking fast through these machines and then get dropped into the correct plastic container by the thousands and those get picked up put on pallets wrapped in plastic loaded on trucks and sent on their way..

Millions of letters go through these machines in one eight hour work day

So to be clear I'm speaking specifically about 1 oz letters or up to two ounces if you are needing to add a little bit extra postage.

I think if you stay in that relm you don't have much worries to consider.

I thinks she is just talking about increasing the depth of field and not manual focus. That might help too, but if you have a lot of condensation like Fiet, you want it to only focus on your mycelium and keep the condensation out of focus.

I see that there are third party camera apps that support manual focus though.

Could also put a hot mug on the plate for a minute and get rid of the condensation for a bit.

I definitely get what you are saying B, there's no 100% safety here. Certainly a trade off. Man, that's some reckless shit, sending drugs in the mail with a king pin return address. I don't blame you for being pissed. It puts you in a unnecessarily precarious situation

Hippie, thank you for the insider input on how letters are distributed. I feel even less worried than I was previously after you went into detail about how it's all processed. Good to know:rockon::mushroom2:

i currently have a set of petri dishes, a pressure cooker, and a couple packets of agar-agar powder

today i will be purchasing a clear plastic tub to turn into a still air box, a cheap plastic shower curtain to cover the arm holes of the SAB, and a medical scalpel

Is there a more comprehensive Tek for mail anonymity? From what I read in the Marketplace a single PO box or mail forwarding service seems to suffice, I am not knowledgeable in this area, but I would be willing to bet none of those options would be willing to protect my identity/final hop in the event of a law enforcement request, let alone a subpoena.

Even if it's offsite, more information would be very helpful!

Thank you all in advance!
