This plate was from a spore swab and I was planning on making my transfers soon. Whatโ€™s the most probable reason for that one section being so different than the rest? When making my transfers, should I just cut out that piece and put it on one plate to try to keep those genetics together and then cut the rest up for other plates?

Did you streak the plate? Or stick a chunk of the swab on it? The bare looking patch in pic 1 from 9to7oclock looks sketch, and the more dense area seems sus as well. Did that dense spot start on it's own? Or did the myc start doing that once it got to that spot on the plate?

Genetic variation, and or interaction with contamination, especially when it's raised like that:mushroom2: If you transfer from it you'll want to Island or Cabin it before sending to grain.

Is there a repository of successful growth stages with timelines per species and TEK?


I would like to better understand where my grows are relative to successful grows. I have looked through the logs forum, but those are hit or miss.

For exotics, best bet is to look through the species-specific threads.

If you're referring to cube varities, then that doesn't exist AFAIk

So turns out I wasnโ€™t putting my pc lid on properly and the bottle does fit! It might be close, but Iโ€™ve got a tea towel underneath and Iโ€™ve put peanut butter on the cap, then put the pc lid on and off and thereโ€™s no peanut butter on it so Iโ€™m assuming thereโ€™s clearance!!

I went the multispore route, and inoculated the grains directly from the syringe because I'm impatient and gambling is fun. The yield on the first batch was rather low, which was an outcome I was prepared for. What I wasn't expecting is that I ate 3.5g dry, which is a significantly larger dose than I've ever taken of mushrooms that others have given me, but the effects were not that intense. Almost no visuals, even lying down in a dark room with eyes closed.

I'm aware that the genetic variation in a multispore grow includes variation in potency. And I have some reason to suspect that my personal baseline tolerance is somewhat higher than average. But like, an eighth ounce is supposed to be a pretty big dose for almost anyone, right? Should I be trying to figure out something I did wrong, or is this more or less an expected outcome and I should just go order a GT or PE clone if I want to have a more predictable dosage target?

Thought you guys would get a laugh out of this.
Fucked up my first pour, my first time in a SAB so Iโ€™m figuring things out.
My plates were upside down and I didn't know, since I'd never used them before. It makes so much sense that the tops are the wider part, but I wasn't thinking and just went for it because I was excited and felt pressure so I didnโ€™t think.

I thought I'd pulled the lid off one, but turns out I'd just picked up a whole stack and poured agar all over the top of a dish.  The condensation from the agar bottle and left over alcohol mist on the wall meant I couldnโ€™t see very well. Then they were all on an angle too.idek how the happened.







And now all my petri dishes and my SAB is COVERED in agar. I ended up picking the stack up and flipping it over, so hopefully the few that I did pour the right way up will be fine, only time will tell. Now Iโ€™m letting them sit and my agar mess set before I parafilm them. Iโ€™ve got 300ml of agar left so I can pour some more plates tomorrow.

Next time Iโ€™ll make sure theyโ€™re the right way up. Get level to place everything on, and likely get a bigger SAB. I also think my agar was too warm? Should not be watery runny or sort of thick runny like honey?

Welcome to team IHOP! Most of us have poured onto a stack in one way or another:hehehe::mushroom2: part of the learning curve. The media bottle should be be slightly uncomfortable in your hand but not burning it. That's around 120 degrees which makes for less condensation when pouring.

Regardless of the small tragedy... Nice work pouring some plates and working in a SAB! This is the begining of you growing lots and lots of mushrooms reliably :smile::mushroom2:

I have this bad habit of dribbling at the end of my pour, so I've started pushing the plate I'm pouring a cm out so I don't IHOP as often :hehehe: idc about one plate with a lil syrup, but a stack of 10 is enough to be frustrating. Nothing like wiping off plates after soaking the stack:facepalm:

Potency is subjective by nature so there's really no good way to measure it. Try a PE strain for higher intensity. Consume them on an empty stomach if you want to trip harder.
In gambling the rub is to usually stack the odds in your favor as high as possible. Growing mushrooms is already quite a toss up for a beginner, and spore to grain has uber high failure rates.

I think I kept 5. But I accidentally opened one in open air when I was pulling them off each other. I took the SAB off to wrap the plays because I figured theyโ€™re closed, and then one kid was stuck to a base. I wrapped it anyway but Willy probably have to toss it. Will try pouring again tomorrow if I can get my hands on a larger container by then
