You are correct the jars with the yellowing is dealing with some bacteria contamination. It's possible you will get a flush from them, but soak and fruit em separately as to avoid transferring it to the healthy cakes.

You can top fruit them with some Coir and place them in a shoebox with a little water in the bottom, or in a Water tub. Just make sure there's only 6-8 in from the cakes surface so the humidity is concentrated where it should be. Otherwise if it's too tall the humidity will concentrate in the top which creates less than ideal conditions for fruiting.

You could also crumble the to bulk as Shoe boxes if you'd like.

Personally I prefer soaking, rolling, and fruiting cakes as is in shoeboxes on plastic jar lids or water tubs. But it's totally personal preference.

You are better off keeping the contaminated cakes as cakes and not taking them to bulk as the break up will force the mycelium to recover and make it more difficult for them to fruit considering they are slightly compromised.

thanks for the reply!

Sorry  I got really busy overnight.

I'm reviewing this now and I like your approach. I think keeping them as cakes this run will be the way to go. I think 2 of these jars might need to be soaked and fruited separately, from the contams I see. Small area on both.

With the pinning on the pint size jars (first batch), should I remove the grain jar lids or leave another week until its fully colonized and ready for soaking and water tub?

I had soaked two cakes of mine that looked great, but in the soak water, it definitely turned yellow, indicating metabolites.

Any insights? Is that just a major sign of a bacterial cake?

Did you use coir in the recipe of the cake?

Yes, pure coir/flour cakes. Does that have a coloring aspect to it?

I always get yellowish soak water with coir-rolled cakes. I think the coir leaches/stains the water a bit.

I need some advice here, unsure how to proceed. I have 2 of 5 jars with a grain lid on that went into early pinning, they haven't fully consolidated at the bottom but fruits already trying to push out, they are growing really fast..

My question is, should I just remove the lid, top-dress it with some coir and let it top fruit with a ziplock bag over it for FAE?
OR
Remove the lid, throw on a ziplock bag, give it a few more days to let it consolidate, then remove the fruits/pins, soak, dunk, and roll and then proceed to add them to water tub for fruiting?

Just wondering what would be my best next step here since they fruited earlier than expected, prior to being fully consolidated .

My goal is to get some prints out of them. If they provide extra then great, but my main focus is to either clone or grab prints.

Closed jars make surprisingly good fruiting chambers. If prints are what you are after, just let them go until ready print. Some of the cleanest prints you can get.

If yields are what you are going for, and you aren't worried about cleaning up spores, do some bottom watering in the jar. add a splash of water down the side of the jar for them to soak up and aid in fruit formation. be sure to dump excess water after 24 hours. No need to case.

After harvest you can soak, roll and put in a chamber if you'd like:mushroom2:

Edit: or you can put them in a chamber for this flush too, depends on you priority. Cleanliness v.s appearance v.s simplicity type thing.

Thanks! I appreciate your response

I think I may just try to harvest some then. Going to bottom water both of them tonight and will just top fruit, once I harvest some of those will soak and roll and move to chamber for next potential flush.

I still have a couple more jars that will join these in the chamber once they fully consolidate

I agree with this.. I've always come out with slightly yellowed water. I think it's just the coir and the grains but I don't think it's had anything to do with like metabolites coloring it.

I said grains also because it's kind of the same color that you see after soaking grains for a while or after you boiled them.

Either way Containers I've had with yellowing water have always grown magnificently
