Haven’t preped corn myself, but If thats right after PC-ing I’d give it a few shakes to redistribute the water. I also get some extra moisture in my jars with wheat, but if I’ve dried everything correctly it usually goes away after shaking it from time to time during cooling. Wouldn’t be surprised if thats a thing with other grains.

I'd say it really depends on how you think it's looking in regards to both an island and a cabin. If you are doing water agar on the island use a decent sized wedge so the mycelium has the energy to make it to the agar, or use a smaller wedge as to not don't make it crawl too far. If it's already looking pretty clean then perhaps nutrient agar is a good call to give it a boost once it reaches the agar:mushroom2:

I've been very happy with Eungella, a wild Australian variety that popped out an albino fruit on a contaminated tray. I since cleaned it up, and got some shoeboxes, and the quality is superb stuff.

But now, I'm doubting myself, did I just mislabel an agar plate or jar and it's just Yeti or APE? I feel like I did not, but now I am unsure.

This is a pic of the bacterial blotch tray where I got the clone from. There were other albinos, and what I assumed were regular looking caps, but maybe it's just a discoloration?

It doesn't sporulate, and in retrospect, I did have a similar looking curved, creamy pheno in Yetis :l

Have I gaslit myself?

:wellitried:

I guess my only option to truly know would be getting it sequenced, and then I can compare against data from Australia and such. Any thoughts?

Hi all. Does anyone know the cause of this? It kinda looks like the cap is breaking apart. It’s only affected a couple pins so far but I grabbed them out in case it’s more serious. Bacteria? Overwatering? Thanks

Looks like rosecomb mutation, have you been spraying your fruits with iso by accident :strokebeard:

It also looks like you're growing Toque genetics, if that's the case many of them are highly unstable and will throw mutants often, should be fine either way

Here's a question I've never considered.

Let's say you've got some jars 100% colonized and consolidated. you break and Shake before going to bulk. So that you can watch recovery and make sure nothing's hiding..

Few days later.. you've got great recovery.

Is it now okay to go forward with going to bulk ? Or are you supposed to wait for it to fully colonize again.

I feel like I always just went for it at the sight of good recovery.  and never waited for full colonization after that final b&s.

But I've been away for about 9 months and can't remember.

Ps. Looking for people that do a final break and Shake to check recovery before going to bulk to answer please.

I usually do the final break&shake check at around 95% instead of 100%, so if they recover like they should I just let it colonize everything and spawn, to answer your question, if you know everything was colonized before the break&shake test you can spawn as soon as you feel confident they are recovering like they should.

Cool. Thats what I figured.

likely what I've always done.

Thanks for sharing your process

I have experienced a lot of times a germ plate 'stalling' or not growing out all the way to the edges of the dish, in fact most didnt.

Got 3 slants that stopped growing. After reading that the specific culture requires allot of FAE, I loosened the lids by 50% inside SAB.
I cut the parafilm roll outside the SAB with clean scissors and moved it inside the SAB where I wrapped the lids tighthly.

So my question is will I risk contamination since they were around 50% loose and not the 25% recommended, and the fact that the parafilm was cut outside the SAB?
I usually tighten it all the way, but this specific culture started stalling. my first time doing this, so just worried.

Every extra step adds a potential vector for contamination, thankfully with the use of agar you'll most likely be able to get it cleaned up regardless:mushroom2:

yes, but how likely is it to get contaminated now with the steps described. its sitting in open air with parafilm wrapped aroud the screw lids with being 50% loose.

There are no guarantees in this business, but the Parafilm is fine, I've never heard of a species needing air on agar, you might be overthinking or confusing FAE with conditions for fruiting, not a slant and or plate.

no im not confusing, im dealing with P. ochraceocentrata and they need allot more oxygen vs most cubes.
and its very known that cubes grow much faster with free airflow vs restricted.

Noob here, down the rabbit hole we go! First attempt at agar work.  How are these looking? Samples taken on 10/10. There starting to get a bit fuzzy, Am I correct in assuming the vertical  fuzzy areas are  contamination?

Would you consider these the correct area to transfer to new plates?

Thank you all! If I hadn’t found the shroomey I would still be fumbling around growing Tric in my spare time. Agar is fun stuff!

I've grown Ochra's fungus friend, not much different than cubes. Pans NEED air, Ochra's are simple in comparison.  Fruiting conditions, and agar slant conditions are two different realms, and aren't the same thing.

Simple 6 qt, nothing fancy.

3rd pic, something at the top of the plate, 5th pic, super common looks like bacillus, 6/7/8 are the same pics.

<edit>

I prefer 3-5 o clock on the first plate, 2nd has good growth 3 - 7 o clock (ish), but it's all preference, I don't choose the wispy areas myself, the last plate, 3 o clock or 11 for me, but it's your fantasy, do what makes you happy.

Looking good, yes you can transfer from those areas. It is safe to assume mycelium that is standing vertically is a result of it trying to outrun underlying contamination. By either taking them to the Island or to the Cabin you can effectively reduce the chance of that contamination continuing to ride along

Mushluv, thank you for the quick reply.  Not clear in my pics, still figuring out how to format pics and text in my posts, 6,7,8 pics are the same pic as above with a red circle around the areas I’m considering taking samples from.

I disagree. I guarantee that I will spend more money on cult supplies than I told myself I would. Haha but I agree. Ochras should be fine in a slant without extra air.

I got a new dehydrator $25 second hand, but only used once. The excalibur I found had already been sold unfortunately.

Also friends, what should I do with these ATL7 stones??? I don’t want to create rocks dehydrating?  I have made stoned gummies, I could do that again but try to only use the amount of water needed for gummies so I don’t need to dehydrate the water to make active tea or whatever it’s called? Idk what to do besides that?

You don't necessarily have to cabin those, pretty easy clean ups there IMO, but there is something cool about an agar roof... no doubt.  If it were a stubborn pinhead mold, yeah that's a tough one and will probably transfer over.

Nice come up there, a friend of mine gave me a dehydrator that I rarely use, but it has settings and dials and everything the Ronco doesn't have, but simple, and effective works, and No noise, other than stinking up my garage from drying fruits.

Fresh stones last for months in the fridge in a pill bottle or any sealed container.  I microdosed them for a few cycles, great at .8 fresh, or as high as 1.2, but felt a touch of the body high at 1.2.  I have a healthy Cannabis appetite, and the stones cleared my mind up being foggy from being in the clouds.

If you want to dry them for storage, invest in a coffee grinder, then when you are ready to enjoy them grind em up and down the hatch:shroomin:
