Hello shroomery

This year my cyanescens bed really took off

Thinking of making a football size bed, just gotta connect with the right kind of farmer.

This year i was able to time the picking enough to do prints, share it on Norwegian reddit, and get in contact with around ten persons who want to start cyanescens in Norway

I hope you all are doing excellent, really miss being here. Seriously miss you all so much

Big hugs

Hey Smalltalk good to see you, and very nice Cyan patch!

Very strange coincidence but I woke up in the middle of the night last night and ended up seeing that you haven't posted in a while and was thinking how you are doing. Looks like you are doing well and still thinking big!

What  is the most correct substrate for cyanescens

A) out of grains or sawdust for spawn

B) a third suggestion?

C) what is the most correct bulk substrate to mix the spawn with for really huge beds?

I want maximum longevity

I say agar to wood chips, this time of year.  we have enough time to expand to more wood chips later before spring.  the time window is here for grain free woodlovers.

edit* wait, you are saying that you are out of grains and sawdust, as in you don't have any, right?  or out of grains or sawdust, which is the best?

So I'm running some test tubs with some biochar after some research and apparently most as long as it's 100% biochar no additives is made sterile during creation at 500/700f over multiple hours is nutrient void for most part and is extremely structurally stable and remains stable through harsh weather. Be it rain or snow

It doesn't have the risk of soil/dirt/woodchips when it freezing harshly exploding mycelium networks with ice shards.

The tubs I got are colonizing quicker than peat moss or coco coir :hatsoff: I want y'all woodlover experts id u got excess of stuff why not try biochar as a substrate or casing and see if it is beneficial

Evin better would be if u in harsher climates to see if it improves outdoor survivability/sustainability

I'm guessing you went grains to biochar?

What ratio did you use?  Pics?

I wonder if one could go agar to biochar?

I went grains to flash pasteurized birch woodchips n didn't use em as they where extras. Aprox 1 part grains 30 parts woodchips then I went to biochar aprox 2 days ago yesterday I could see clear recovery and jumpoff to biochar

No idea if agar to biochar will work though I assume so for woodlovers or secondary wood decomposers that are primary soil lovers

And for the grass lovers and dung lovers it might work if adding extra nitrogen possibly unsure though

As far as I know I'm the only one sofar to attempt cult with biochar so what little information I have is very much in trials still and unproven to be capable of fruiting... Yet.

Though just on structure and nutrient void + sterile out the bag it seems like a extremely viable casing or substrate choice as it is just as easy or easyer to get to field capacity than coir and is guarinteed to be more resistant to anaerobic conditions

If it works I expect the pin set to be savage because it will have better microclimate and evaporation consistency across the tub

No uneven water pockets and no thicker coir chunks or compressed unevenness ๐Ÿ˜

At work right now. Il try to get a pic of it colonizing though it's fairly early still and I don't plan on opening lid till it's mostly colonized as it's part of my litfa workflow

I had a few questions and wanted to get a general idea so i made a template of a few basic superficial questions before i decided to really get into the meat and potatoes of the subject. I was going to post in qqqa thread but felt I honestly might get more info or mroe responses here specifically. i have samples of live cyanescens, ovoids, and luteofolius i want to grow. The ovoids are native to my exact area and are a gift from a close friend. For each question i guess i would like to just know what and why:

easiest to grow
hardest to grow
most potent
most recently discovered
fastest growing (or all relatively similar)

some other things i am curious about:

best grain for cyans/ovoids (probably any..)
best brands hardwood chips or sawdust to get if i can't acquire local independnet and have to go to tractor supply, home depot or wal mart.
ratios for h2o and substrate for cyans/ovoids

I also want to know the best propagation and methodology in a tight nutshell for growing cyans and ovoids specifically, if anyone is willing to teach me. I've always been a cube guy, but I'm looking to expand my horizons now that I have a trusted and safe environment to propagate.

I'm going to UTSF but if anyone is willing to help me kickstart that a little bit it's worth a post. i want to start this month, before halloween. I'm waiting on my next paycheck to acquire materials, but I already have most everything i need. Hopefully I can grow these out successfully but wanted to make an introductory (sort-of) post to the thread because I'm interested in it. I'll post my results and better yet even come back and present any good links i found, i will probnably come back with more questions and some answers.

For now I guess I'm just looking for some concrete fundamentals about woodies and what to expect vs what's required, as well as any potential risks or pitfalls I may not consider or are not generally considered.

I don't have all the answers you want though I got a link [embed=,]https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/29478902[/embed]
It has a pretty vast amount of knowledge on different psilocybe and they're requirements and difficulty level kinda. As for potency that's a evin harder question as for example psilocybe cyans and azurescens are some of the fungi that are supposedly super potent (3x or so of a avr cube) yet I can enjoy 5 grams dry every day for a month straight and be rolling vibing n not be so dissociated like cubes make me past a 3.5g dose

Woodlovers also have something called sleep paralysis that is only noted in woodlovers

And I believe certain woodlovers have multiple accounts of many different people meeting tiny beings like dwarfs or something. Unsure I haven't experienced it YET

Every woodlover I have tryed has immediately been put in my favorites list.

Also since the link didn't tell you about this option
Hard wood fuel pellets desolve to sawdust with water and in the pressing and heating procedure to make them into pellets they make them sterile str8 out of the bag as far as I know.

(On a experimental note I'm testing biochar as a substrate with psilocybe caerulescens and psilocybe cyanescens and the cyanescens is definitely colonizing fast af )

And someone was saying I think with zapotecorum they made a big tub and let it colonize the block n then ere spring or summer they put it outdoor in a swampy area I believe and got fruits throughout n put back in the tub before winter rinse repeat for 3 years with same tub

(ANSWER LOL the only answer to the questions I got is newest discovered which I believe is the India woodlover which likes 70 f I think which is kinda groundbreaking considering most others like cold for fruiting triggers)

Nice one buddy yeah I used a sort of hardwood pellet that I found the casing actually contasined starch so when it was sterilized and exposed to the open air during inoculation it was immediately doomed. It is the casing or glue-like layer that holds the sawdust together. I know alot of brands don't do this but I apparently got one of the ones who did.I have azuresecens and semperviva too, few different clones that I am redy to work with. I set up the SAB tonight and am doing stuff with syringes :yesnod: so I got the bug back in me.

easiest to grow

Ovoids and cyans are both easy to grow, I have struggled a bit more with Gymnopilus sp, but have no experience with luteofolius

hardest to grow

most potent

Cyans are most potent here, followed by ovoids, then luteo. Gymnopilus sp aren't potent in general, cyan-azure-alleni-subaeruginosa are about three times as potent as cubes, ovoids are ime about twice as potent as cubes. Others say on par.

most recently discovered

Cyans have been described in the 1940s, ovoids '00s and luteofolius idk.

fastest growing (or all relatively similar)

Ovoid myc is voracious. Cyan clade too. Gymnopilus colonize pretty fast but I haven't had them on large subs yet.

some other things i am curious about:

best grain for cyans/ovoids (probably any..)
best brands hardwood chips or sawdust to get if i can't acquire local independnet and have to go to tractor supply, home depot or wal mart.
ratios for h2o and substrate for cyans/ovoids

they don't give a fuck really. I've grown them via PF cakes, millet, rye and agar straight to chips. The important thing is to get the spawn on woodchips and then you can just keep expanding that.

I also want to know the best propagation and methodology in a tight nutshell for growing cyans and ovoids specifically, if anyone is willing to teach me. I've always been a cube guy, but I'm looking to expand my horizons now that I have a trusted and safe environment to propagate.

My sop is agar -> grain -> sterilized chips. At full colonization the chips go to more (untreated) chips. Make beds in a shaded, plant-covered area. Dig out some topsoil and make a lasagna of colonized chips and buckets or bigbags worth of untreated chips. It takes several months to colonize and often doesn't fruit the same year. Once it starts fruiting, I just add a new layer of chips in Dec - Feb and that's basically it.
Or just throw a jar of colonized chops in a planter and cover with more chips. Once yiu chip you're gonna trip.

Just be on the lookout for a source of woodchips. An arborist, or a municipal dump site, someone with a chipper...

For now I guess I'm just looking for some concrete fundamentals about woodies and what to expect vs what's required, as well as any potential risks or pitfalls I may not consider or are not generally considered.

Edit: answered your questions in the quote but just wanted to add: cyan clade woodlovers are among the best mushrooms I ever had. Cyanescens has been my go-to for years. Before that, it was azurescens. There is something about cyan clade that sets it apart from the rest.

Only recently discovered ovoids and they were so good that I tripped on them three times in a row. With every inaginable hallucinogen available at all three locations.

Cyan, ovoid and zapo are my favorite Psilocybes now. And ovoids will henceforth be the go-to for virgin trippers. Friendliest thing I've encountered.

Churp answered that perfectly already.

The only thing I see differently here is that they should definitely fruit the first year imo. The only reason they would not is if the substrate is not fully devoured yet when fruiting season comes. A high enough spawn ratio and starting early will make it almost certain they'll fruit the first season ime.

As far as ease of cultivation, it depends on where you live ( assuming you are growing outdoors). Both ovoids and cyans are pretty easy to expand. The mycelium grows great on lme agar and grain. They both colonize wood chips aggressively. The weather patterns where you are will dictate how well they fruit. I suppose you could set up irrigation; I haven't tried that yet. Cheers!
