This is basically what you're paying the extra money for.  If you get the electric presto, the only noise you will have is when the PC vents all the air out, from then on its basically silent

For me, I do my PCing in the garage where making noise aint a problem, but yeah if you want to make as little as noise possible,  you'll have to decide if its worth the extra $250 USD. Which if you are more monitarily abundant ($$$$$$),  that could possibly be chalked up to a sound investment

Agreed. Prolly worth the investment in the long run depending on the person.
Same  conclusion we came to during our discussion previously. If it's worth it for you then by all means.

I'm not going to get another PC until I absolutely need one.

But when I do I'm going to look into induction Presto with an induction plate for the sake of saving money. Enjoying all the luxuries of  controlled heat and automation.

But I'm not opposed to the electric version. However it is all one piece and contained and what happens if it breaks down or something. There's nothing more tried and true than gas/fire/induction.

I'm sure they have warranties. But I would hate for something to happen to the thing and then troubleshooting have to stop at whatever point you can't take the thing apart and see it's guts.

Without possibly voiding whatever warranties might be in place.

However if the plate stops working then that would seem to be a pretty easy and inexpensive replacement.. compared to scrapping the whole pc and buying another.

Things to consider.

Yeah I won't be considering this until my 16qt presto quits. If it ain't broke don't fix it:shrug: though new equipment is fun to speculate on

Is there an induction plate that is recommended for the induction style presto?

I got a hotplate once to try and move my presto out of the kitchen, but it never had the power to bring it up to pressure in a reasonable amount of time

This one works like a charm

I will say that with an electric Presto all you have to do is push a botton, whereas with a manual PC, you do have to put the pressure regulator on after venting in order to build up pressure, so... choices

Definitely seen this one recommended by others as well.  I think I've even got it on my Amazon saved list from like a year ago

having a bit of an issue with agar and looking to the community to see if it will be a problem

I am trying to make some .5% LME for pans, I tried bringing the agar mix to a very light boil to break up the chunks, I ended up getting agar material stuck to the bottom of my pot, will this make the agar an issue/not work?

I also bought some agar plates from midwest growkits. I assumed they would screw on (dont know why they even sell ones that dont at this point) but they do not. Got some parafilm/grafting tape per youtube video i watch (from spore n stipe? maybe idr its been a bit) and now realizing this shit is not sticky. I'm frustrated. Will this be fine to put in PC if I wrap the hell out of it?

The last time I attempted .5% LME it did not end well and i had watery agar and wasted time and material. I am attempting a no pour tek which is what I did last time when it did not work. i'm frustrated typing this before I even start honestly (Agar is cooling in fridge rn) but I really, really want to try pans.

EDIT: So After No pour tek I have not yet PC'd because when I would put the lid on the agar plates, they got foggy, And i remember previously having issues with this, so I threw them in fridge to cool down.

Now the agar has formed.

Will I be able to still use this agar after I PC'  it?

That's a really cool pheno on that top one. Were there any labels / any backstory on where you got it? (omitting vendor, obv) If you're set up to clone, that's a good candidate.

It's probably sporeless or nearly sporeless so you could let it run a little longer so the rest of them can fatten up a bit. Those bigger ones with the veils tearing are ready but another day or two probably won't kill ya unless they're feeling soggy and then sure, chop away.

Bottom pinset is looking great, very nice.

Are those regular 6qt shoeboxes or something bigger?

Even with the electric presto you have to engage the regulator weight after venting.

I am unsure of the variety in the first box, I got it by swabbing the gills of a dried mushroom that was purchased. I would be very interested to know what it is. It was a slow grower and took about 2 months to pin, only doing so when I realised it probably needed to be cased haha. Thanks for the info re harvesting I appreciate it.

They are 8qt shoeboxes. thank u very much for your reply, it is much appreciated.

SO I have a question myself guys.

Can y'all help me get this stuff to field capacity?

Walmart near me stopped selling my jiffys mix so I bought some shit that might or might not work and I like to experiment + have old spawn jars I don't have much expectations for except to learn more about the cultures 😁

Experimenting with old spawn contaminated jars isn't the way to learn about the culture. Or any way to run an experiment.

Wow, first time I'm seeing these guys. The ability to carefree walk away for 2 - 4 hours sounds great. But sure are expensive and not available in EU so would need to import ...

But do they actually PC at 15 psi?

They do reach 15psi.

Everything about it is legit. It's a presto. Just simply electric and simplified

Getting over that price  is hard for me though. I'm definitely going to go for the next best option which is not really any less of an option.

Induction compatible pc. Preferably presto.(just cause)  And an induction plate.

DJ Karma-  you will be good. When you PC it will go to liquid and back to solid when it cools. I have reheated my Agar to pour before and plates were fine. Just PC plates in a container or wrapped in foil and wrap them with graft tape or parafilm after you pull them out in a SAB or in front of a hood (confession, I wrapped plates outside my SAB before getting a FFU).  Also stretch the grafting tape around the plates and it should start to stick better. It’s not like actual sticky tape.

Edit: i wrap plates in stacks of 10 with plastic wrap until I use them, then individually wrap them with parafilm to save time. But I pour 30-50 at a time.

Guys, I will be harvesting tomorrow I think and will get the SAB ready for cloning some fruits. I also have some swabs, never done any but keen to give it a go for the sake of science and learning.

Now I wonder, what is the benefit on collecting spores VS cloning? When you clone you get to pick what you clone selecting fruits with the traits that you like (rapid growth, cluster style, size, mutations, etc).

But with spores it feels like a Russian roulette of phenos where you dont know what you are getting until you fruit it.

I can see the benefit if you are very experienced and in the look for specific traits that MS could potentially bring you.

For what reasons do you guys collect spores?

I am gonna do it just to see if I can manage to pull it, also I love agar so... sounds fun. But my rational brain tells me that cloning is what I actually should be doing.

Thanks again you all =)

Reasons for spores:

1- Restarting a culture that is underperforming
2- Trades
3- Crosses, you can use one print, and make multiple crosses by just swabbing some spores from it
4- a Cloned culture is not eternal, well, you can if you do slants I suppose. Spores are your longterm term genetic storage.

You are right, you are gonna get better end results from cloning, in terms of clusters/pheno/potency, well, you likely are if you choose the right fruits. Make sure to taste test your cloned fruits, it might look splendid but be a lame potency, don't waste time cultivating that.

Spores serve to try your change again at a lucky start (if you ever played a roguelite like Binding of Isaac, this should make sense), or trying to mix.

Perfectly explained, yeah I knew about cloning and cloning and cloning the same thing ends up tiring the culture.

Storage is enough of a reason for me to do it. Loves this genetic.

Cheers mate
