I have a couple of questions about misting.

Is distilled water preferred for misting? Or tap water is fine? I have been misting with distilled water but then I read something about it not being ideal cos it sucks minerals out of the substrate, donโ€™t know if thatโ€™s true.

Also, I noticed some little dents or bruising in the caps , is this due to misting? I donโ€™t think big water drops are falling on them from the condensation in the lid, doubt it. Is it normal or should I be concerned?

I've used distilled water before without problems and most the stuff the fungi needs is in the grains or if woodlovers in the wood :rockon:

The dents  Just look like what would be wet blotch.. So could be from heavy water droplets falling on them or possibly pseudinoma but those look really good. 

Don't really have an answer for you on the distilled water but if I had to guess it doesn't matter.

Either way those look good. :rockon:

If you are having heavy water droplets that are falling from the lid that would be something to consider.

Fyi tap water has salts and other chemicals that could stunt mycelium depending on how vigorous or how prolific the chemicals are ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Destilled is a lot safer in my opinion

:shrug:I have very hard water where I'm from and I've always used my tap.

never had any issues with 100+ grows but I've never really paid attention to it otherwise.

so who knows if they would be better if I started using distilled. at this point I'm not going to pay for it or distill my own water cuz. I haven't needed to . that's all I'm saying.

Do you know the pH of your tap water?

Your municipality tap water should be sterile enough for the fully colonized stage of growth. But I would highly recommend that you use the water source closest to your connection to the local infrastructure. The fewer appliances and aeration systems in-between the local infrastructure and flarisol misting the less risk of contamination vectors in your water.

:my house is on a well and our tap water runs through a water softener. When I started cultivating I read that โ€œsoftenedโ€ water was ill advised . I tried distilled water for agar, grain soak and coir hydration. Zero difference compared to the tap.

Of course, itโ€™ll always be a personal choice โ€” but personally, I wouldn't recommend tap water across the board. And Iโ€™d even argue that bottled mineral water isnโ€™t ideal either.

Tap water contains bacteria, including species from the Bacillus or Pseudomonas genera. Depending on the area, bacterial loads in tap water can be higher or lower, which is why it might work relatively well for some while causing issues for others...

For misting, Iโ€™m sticking with distilled water.
