So when lighting oneself on fire, is this just a glove that caught some flame and was a quick put out? Because ive done that. Tried to blow on it through my mask!

Or are folks getting drenched in isopropyl and becoming human torches?

If you want to be a member then just spray a good amount of iso inside your SAB, and flame sterilized you scalpel blade right after, also inside your SAB, ta daaaaa :winner:

Here's a "yea I think I know something about aeration, and have a bunch of tubes and stuff" example.

I built what I have been calling an Aeration Array, it's an inline system for distributing fresh air into LC jars. The goal of this project was to provide automated aggregation and air supply to several cultures at the same time to speed the culturing process.

The concept of operations is as follows:
1 Intake pre-filter
2 Air pump
3 Check valve
4 Six way manifold
5 0.22um PTFE filter - STERILE BOUNDARY
6 Liquid culture jars for unique cultivators

It was able to speed the process slightly from what I as a complete noob could tell, but also introduced so many contaminates it was just a super fast mold grower.

Prototype with 6 jars, 200ml medium, 5ml LC(yes from random internet vendors)

Enigma growing all of the bacteria imaginable at day 12:

I am nothing if not persistent, here is the updated version I will work on after I sterilize everything in my house this weekend.

I saw something like this on youtube

I will be monitoring this experiment

I'm no aeration expert and I probably won't ever need anything like this... but the design seems redundant to me.

First, because of the peroxide—if you're using a filter, why do you need peroxide?

I wouldn't trust placing the filter after the peroxide either, due to the risk of moisture saturation, which is definitely not zero.

And I wouldn't use tubes so short that they have to bend at sharp angles over such small distances. That adds unnecessary stress on the joints. In fact, I'd look for a way to seal the joints more securely and have them come straight down perpendicularly into the jars.

That said, I admit I'm speaking from ignorance.

But why? I have made gallons of LC. No idea why I would need or want this.

Dear fiddlehead,

We both know I didn't post your real first name.

I made a post about putting down my cat and you attacked me for several posts before I responded. Please dude just leave me alone. I want nothing to do with you. That was the third time you've crashed out on me for no reason. It has to stop. Just put me on ignore. I'm no longer replying to you.

This is great feedback thank you!

The redundant filtering is likely not warranted, but I like to over engineer solutions.

For the seal, I have some old red RTV(might be a bit dried out now) I was thinking of adding at the joints. If it fails immediately I'll throw super glue on it.

On tube length, do you have a suggestion or what calculation I can do to dial in the length better?

As to why I am attempting this: I just really like science!

I do regret not getting a picture of the bacteria carpet out of the jar, that thing was a carpet! 4mm thick and didn't break until I pulled it apart.

Science is our attempt at describing the natural world in order to understand it. I’m not sure what this is doing except proving how easy it is to grow contams.

That is fair. I'm very interested in growing just about anything though, so I would like to see if I can learn something from this project.

And I don't think the little jars will be missed for the time being, at least until the winter garden comes in, so I should be good to run for a few months!

Be careful tho. To actually learn something useful in the hobby you need to control the variables in order to prove the hypothesis. I don’t know what your hypothesis is. I do know growing mold and bacteria is not only very easy to do, some of them can be harmful to both your future shroom grows as well as your health. Be careful with your mold farm please.

My primary concern here will always be harm reduction first and foremost. Just because I set myself on fire a few times doesn’t mean I endorse it, quite the contrary. Don’t spawn a bathtub, don’t grow shrooms on bathtowels, and definitely do not light yourself on fire.

I wouldn't use either option. When dealing with easily contaminated media, you need an impeccable level of sterility (and that's assuming the medium itself is truly clean). Maybe some type of silicone or another semi-liquid sealant.

No calculations involved (though you could probably calculate it). I just meant relieving the mechanical stress on the joints caused by the tubes pulling on them.

I also like science with a clear purpose, up to a point—otherwise, it's just a waste of time.

I'm with PastyWhyte on this one—cultivating bacteria presents obvious risks, and I don't think that's the purpose of this forum. Quite the opposite, actually...

Maybe you'd find clearer answers in an engineering or microbiology forum—I'd ask around there if this is just an 'experiment' and about growing bacteria.

Hey, just purely out of playful gossip—that's the second time I've heard about the bathtub. What's the story behind that?

Man just get like a plastic box with holes in it that you can put your hands through and then just transfer from a jar of clean LC into your grains or onto agar or whatever else you have put into this box. After the air has settled. You don't need so many different things to just accomplish that. You just want one clean drop to make it into one sanitized thing that's it.

This is why I am here! Thank y'all so much!

I rarely consider the risk to myself when starting odd projects, and I definitely had not thought about the risks for this one. I will stop this project, and focus on improving my understanding of conventional cultivation!

Not very important to continue discussing my hypothesis, but here it is:

Increasing all growth factors could speed the multiplication rate of fungi culture.

I have read "nothing speeds up growth" a dozen times, but out of blind ambition I attempted to break that rule.

I am ending this experiment now, but I was testing increased nutrients in LC, fresh air exchange, and aggregation rates.

I would heed the advice of others here and not do what I did. Testing one variable is science, testing 30 variables is chaos, and probably a big safety risk.
