Have the colonized jar open and ready to pour (in hand) next to the receivig jar, quickly lift the lid off and pour some colonized grain in, then close. Introducing a tool would just be a contam vector, and probably slower and more cumbersome.

I like jiffy. Straight out the bag.  Amd the one I get usually has the lime or already ph adjusted.  I believe.  Check the ingredients. Some are and some aren't.   

And yes I get mine fro. Home depot or other garden stores.

Tree frog would be a good person to ask these questions.  Well they more of a pans aficionado .. but  knows a ton  about casing exotics. and how to use them to the best ability

This is a shoebox which I s2bed 4 weeks ago, it colonised fine but eventually formed these little tufts of mycelium about 2 weeks ago, after which it has done nothing. This culture was swabbed from some dried albino mushrooms so I am unsure of the variety. I have two tubs of this culture which have done the same thing. Other varieties I spawned at the same time have fruited fine.

Could this be a variety which requires a casing layer? Is it worth applying one now?

Stone producer thread, 99.99 was a big help to me there, many others too.

FWIW I used organic jiffy seed starter mix, only ingredients are lime, verm, and peat moss, pasturize and case 1/4 inch after full colonization. Mine has colonized most of the casing but I have ~35 pins coming up across the surface.

They like it much wetter than cubes but no puddles.

And lots more FAE.

Read the last 4 pages of that thread or so and lots of your answers are right there.

Yeah, give it a light casing layer and give it a good spray until its moist and up the FAE, it looks like it wants more air

Has anybody experimented using a true casing layer at spawn instead of at full colonization (for cubes)? Like instead of the pseudo casing we usually do or even on top of the pseudo casing ...

What would be the benefits and what would be the pitfalls, except possibility for contam - although with proper pasteurization ime this mix lasts a long time.

Can you define a true casing layer at spawn just so there's no confusion, im thinking that a pseudo casing layer IS when you spawn
