The Sydney Harbour bridge protest drew a crowd of 300000, so the Minns government introduced anti-protest laws which thankfully were challenged in court and ruled unconstitutional.

This is one of the more insidious aspects of liberal democracy. Every few years (or 20, in this case), the individual at the top of the power structure becomes the sin eater for the entire structure. No change actually takes place. Sure, a substantial amount of the public doesn’t want to upset that structure, but for those that do, all that anger and motivation and potential for change is diffused into electing the next individual.
