Noticing neurodiverse traits in family and friends * 1

I was talking to a good friend of mine whose husband is ADHD, and whose mum is autistic. She was saying how now that she knows what signs of these are she can see it in a lot of family members.

Anyone else have the same experience?
I can see it in SO MANY people I know. I am pretty observant and analytical so not too surprised I notice these things. I also seek out people with similar traits to me habitually because I like people who are blunt and honest, so they tend to be autistic and other ND types anyway.

Was talking to my mum today who is basically me but 30 years older. She and I are the same stubborn, impulsive, humorous and short tempered people. Lol. She's been told before by me and my brother (who is ADHD and OCD) that she seems to have ADHD, and she sees it herself too.

I'm not one to expect someone seek out diagnosis if they don't want to. And I'm not one to point out my observations to others unless I am very close to them and think they will be able to then work towards some tools to help them with the issues that these things give you.

Tbh, I don't think there's much wrong with these conditions anyway. To me is a variation of people. Sure I struggle more than the average but I'm also kinda weird and interesting (from what I've been told).

Anyway oops I think I've strayed from the original point of this point which is to ask:

have any of you noticed neurodiverse traits in others? Have you brought it up with them if you thought it was good for them?

I'm in my early 40s, and just found out I'm on the ASD spectrum a few years ago. I'm still kind of processing that in some ways really. I feel dumb sometimes for not knowing, because looking back it's pretty obvious. I kind of think my mom knew or maybe I was diagnosed young and she didn't want to tell me, because she didn't want me to think I had a disability. I did well early on in school and had an above average vocabulary. So, I seemed normal enough, just felt alien most of the time. Maybe knowing earlier would have helped in some ways, or maybe it would have held me back in some ways, likely both... idk.

Now that I see it in myself, I see it a lot more often in others though.


On the other end, my gf has a friend who blames everything on ADHD. She also feels the need to tell everyone all the things they do that make her think they have ADHD too, and it can get annoying.

Yeah I feel the same. Not sure if I would have been better of knowing earlier.

God yeah Im not a fan of people who blame their issues on something and then don't take responsibility for it. Yeah I'm definitely very careful in who I mention the possibility to

I feel like your missing the point if all the people you know are neurodiverse then its not a special case. So just chill because the same requirements in society are the same for everyone and is hard for all people.  We have a cognitive basis to see ourselves in others.  Example is this notice when you get a different car ans suddenly you see the same model of car your driving everywhere.  Its not that 100s of people in your area all switched cars its you just didn't notice them before.

If you start accusing people of being  mentally ill in anyway especially women they will denie it and physical hurt you in most cases.
