I doubt any typical filter would work. If you have an ffu, it may limit the smell if you put the dehydrators in front of the intake. My commercial 2x4 foot wipes smells pretty quickly, but that may be a bit over the top.

There is a old vent fan that does not work Apartment is small. I tried holding dehydrator in the bathroom but then the stench was really noticeable when you enter the apartment. Probably mix with humidity.

We used to do that when trying to sneakily smoke weed in high school (and its seems like every region/group has a name for this device, ours was "sploof"). It was just a toilet paper tube full of dryer sheets you blow the hit out of, ideally out a window. It was imperfect but definitely helped.

Dryer sheets are meant to have hot air blown over them and improve scents etc. Maybe just scotch tape them over the top of the thing and blow the air through it?

Even if some smell lingers, it being mostly dryer sheet is probably familiar enough for most people to shrug and not question it.

Especially in a closed bathroom w the vent on as rev suggested, would probably go a long way. Bathroom vents should be piped somewhere outside.

A towel against the underside of the door will also help trap the smell, either at the bathroom or at the entrance to the hallway.

I wouldnt do it with active crops in there (dont know if it would be detrimental) but if you have a martha and exhaust youre already using I would just do that. Short of that jsut regular ventilation I would suggest so you're not just coverin git up. There's a chance mush+dryer sheets will not cancel out and just smell even worse, which is my hunch.

Does it need to go outside via ventilation/windows, or it can somehow "recirculate"?

as Rev said, the strongest odor is happening at the beginning of the process.  when you think of it, it's the water vapor and humidity that is acting as a vehicle to carry those aromas.  moving through that phase as quickly as possible should alleviate the issue.  if your dehydrator allows, going at a higher temp (65c or 150f and up) will make a difference. it won't eliminate it, but help.


here's an easy and cheap experiment.  toss in a cinnamon stick or two to shift the aroma into something less funky.

Then I thought about some DIY solution of putting active carbon somehow on top of dehydrator where the air goes out hmh...
What do you think, any advice (no garage, no basement)? Also, putting anything through the window to be seen is a no go...

I used to just put a scented candle on top of each dehydrator. Use the same smell for all of them, citrus is best IMO. You don't light it and the candle doesn't burn but it neutralizes the scent. Ol azur trick.

Filter goes on floor, fan sits on top of filter. Plug it in and just let it run, it's quieter than the dehydrator itself. Doesn't work instantly, but when left to recirculate in the room where the dehydrator runs it keeps the funk down to a nigh unnoticeable level unless you stick your nose right up against the device.

Mileage may vary of course. I have no idea if all brands of filter work as well as mine, the size of the room will play a part, as well the amount of material being cooked.

But it's the only solution that actually REMOVES the scent from the air, rather than just covering it up with other funky stuff.

Vivosun and AC Infinity are both... "ok" brands and run around 40$ for a 4x12 filter. A duct fan to work that will run anywhere from 25-100$ depending on brand, quietness, power, etc. If it's a headache you run into often enough that ~100$ seems a fair price to solve, I can recommend it wholeheartedly.
